In this way, the coefficients for any y((n) can be calculated. Table A.l in Appendix A shows them all, as whole numbers m/3j, where m is the multiplier mentioned above. For each n, the Table shows forward differences (at index 1), backward derivatives (at index n) and derivatives applying at points between the two ends. The declared efficiency and power factor of a motor are affected by its loading. Irrespective of the load, no-load losses as well as the reactive component of the motor remain constant. The useful stator current, i.e. the phase current minus the no-load current of a normal induction motor, has a power factor as high as 0.9-0.95. But because of the magnetizing current, the p.f. of the motor does not generally exceed 0.8-0.85 at full load. Thus, at loads lower than rated, the magnetizing current remaining the same, the power factor of the motor decreases sharply. The efficiency, however, remains practically constant for up to nearly 70% of load in view of the fact that maximum efficiency occurs at a load when copper losses (f R) are equal to the no-load losses. It is now known that the view of electrons in individual well-defined quantum states represents an approximation. Rivers transport suspended sediments derived from the disintegration of basin surface layers. With reduced velocity, sediment is deposited in the river channel. The finest material is carried to the sea. It has been estimated that the average mechanical denudation rate for continents is 0.056 mm year (35). This is based on a total suspended load of 13.5 x 10 metric tons year (S). Presently, about two-thirds of the world s total suspended sediment load derives from Southern Asia and large Pacific Islands. Berner has estimated the increase in sediment loss in the U.S. and world since prehuman times to be approximately 200% (35). Current estimated erosion rate from the major land forms is provided in Table I. The relatively recent construction of large sediment trapping dams that normally caused sediment to be deposited in river valleys or transported to the ocean has drastically reduced sediment yields in great rivers. [Pg.251]
