The horizontal rotary table filter incorporates, as its name suggests, a horizontal rotary circular table divided into segments or drainage compartments, each of which is ported to a rotary valve underneath the table. The top surface of the table is fitted with a filter medium and walls are provided around the periphery of the table and around the hub. The feed slurry is distributed across the table through a feed box and vacuum is applied to... 

Sizes of the Bird-Prayon and Ucego filter can be very large, over 200 m2 of active surface area, allowing rates up to 1600-2000 metric tons per day P205. Belt filters are, so far, 110 m2 or less however, they are relatively inexpensive because little alloy steel is used, and normally two belt filters would be less in first cost than one large tilting pan or table filter.

From Figure 11.1, it may be inferred that suspensions of fine particles will require pressure filters whilst a coarse suspension will be suitably processed in pan or table filters. Where the size range is wide, the actual plant choice may be affected by the concentration of fines a slurry with 10% greater than 10 pm may require pressure filtration at the same average size an increase in proportion greater than 10 pm may make a rotary filter possible.
