Figure 16 shows the normalized mass distribution inside the filter wall vs. the normalized wall thickness as a function of the utilized capacity of the filter wall, for the low porous and the high porous material (small wall thickness) at a filtration velocity of 4cm/s. The line of the highest utilized capacity gives the state of loading inside the filter wall when the transition from the deep-bed to cake filtration has occurred and there is no more mass entering inside the filter wall. This final state of the mass distribution along the filter wall thickness was calculated for all the cases listed in Table I and the results are shown in Fig. 17. [Pg.231]

The authors have evaluated different C18 and C8 columns, studying the variation in capacity factors with the proportion of water in the mobile phase for all six acid derivatives. The detector was a fluorescence detector equipped with a 360-nm excitation and a 420-nm emission filter. They were unable to resolve derivatives of the six acids on three different C18, 5-/zm columns, despite using a wide range of solvent compositions. Table 3 shows capacity factor values for three critical acid derivatives on a number of columns. When a C8,5-/un column was used with an isocratic solvent system [acetonitrile/water (98 2)], they observed a marked improvement in the resolution of the six derivatives. However, it was not possible to achieve complete resolution of the six compounds under isocratic conditions, despite numerous experiments with a range of organic solvent mixtures consisting of acetonitrile, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, and water. [Pg.186]

Papierfabrik Palm, Newsprint Mill, Eltmann, Germany Table 35.1 shows that Eltmann newsprint mill of Papierfabrik Palm has reduced COD, AOX, and color in their effluents using spiral-wound nanofiltration since 1999. Prior to NF, the effluent is biologically treated (activated-sludge plant) and prefiltered using sand filters. The capacity of the NF plant is 190 m permeate per hour. The flux of the Nadir NF-PES-10 membrane has been around 10-30 L/(m h) [107]. The NF-PES-10 membrane was chosen because of its alkaline stability (pH > 12), which was needed when cleaning the membrane. The reported COD removal is 89%, AOX 61%, and color 93% [59]. [Pg.995]

Both previous [47] and the present studies (Table 4) have shown the correlation between the two processes. Evaluation of carbons depends on concentration and kind of poUutants, physicochemical properties of carbons and conditions of adsorption. It was stated, that order of adsorptivity values in classification in static conditions (equilibrium concentration 0,2 mg/dm of SLS — permissible concentration in potable water) is similar to the total loading of detergent on filters (mg or mg/cm ). Carbons chemically activated show decreased adsorption in dynamic conditions. Greater differences in values of adsorption capacities and changes of order in classification have been observed, when comparison of these processes was carried out in mass loading (mg of SLS/g of carbon). [Pg.448]
