Step 17 Establish system safety working groups... [Pg.96]

Under the auspices of the American National Standards Institute, the American Industrial Hygiene Association serves as the secretariat for the Accredited Standards Committee for Occupational Health and Safety Systems. A working group has been established which has become identified as the ANSI ZIO committee. Its scope is to... [Pg.390]

The development of vehicle electrical systems operating at a nominal 42 V and its standardization with ISO is underway. A working group of the European Vehicle Electric System Architecture Forum has prepared a draft standard for this new voltage level [58]. The 42-V level was chosen as a compromise between the demand for an increased voltage to achieve higher efficiency in electrical and electronic components and the exclusion of safety hazards, even under extreme operational conditions like load dump, etc. The term 42-V PowerNet , or simply PowerNet , is now established worldwide [9,11,59]. [Pg.421]

If a SNUR cross-references a subsection of 40 C.F.R. 721.72 then it will be a significant new use to manufacture, import, or process the SNUR substance unless the manufacturers, importers, processors, and users have a hazard communication program to warn about the risks that the substance poses. This group of significant new uses builds on a system of hazard communication established by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). OSHA has promulgated Hazard Communication Standards that require employers to assess hazards posed by the chemicals they make or import and provide hazard information on labels and in MSDSs. Employers and processors of chemicals that pose hazards must make the labels and MSDSs available in the work place and train their employees in safe handling procedures. [Pg.406]

SAE established a Fuel Cells Standard Forum that is chartered with the establishment of standards and test procedures for fuel cell powered vehicles. The committee was established in 1999. The standards will cover the safety, performance, reliability, and recyclability of fuel cell systems in vehicles with emphasis on efficiency and environmental impact. The standards will also establish test procedures for uniformity in test results for the vehicle/systems/components performance, and define interface requirements of the systems to the vehicle. Working Groups have been formed in the areas of safety, performance, emissions, recyclability, interface, and terminology. The working groups have created the following documents ... [Pg.400]

A safety tour is an unscheduled examination of a work area undertaken by a selected group of staff, including the manager with direct responsibility for that area, members of a health and safety committee, supervisors, trade union safety representatives and selected operators. A safety tour can examine predetermined health and safety aspects, such as housekeeping levels, standards of machinery safety, the use of personal protective equipment and the operation of established safe systems of work. Safety tours should be related to and reinforce decisions made by local management or by the health and safety committee. For maximum effectiveness, it is essential that action following a safety tour is taken immediately. [Pg.92]

Permit-to-work systems should ensure that work is planned and carried out under adequate safety precautions in cases where the exposed persons do not have personal control of the involved hazards (Section 7.6). At the Ymer offshore platform, modifications of one of the compressor trains must take place while the platform is producing. This work has been subcontracted to an installation firm, BCC Installations. At the start of this work, the platform manager wants to be confident that the established work-permit-system is adequately designed and implemented. Your group is assigned the responsibility for the planning and execution of an audit. Its scope is the implementation of the work-permit-system for this particular modification work. Your tasks are to ... [Pg.197]
