Zhou et al. [175] described the determination of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus by a microfluidic chip system. The unit included an LIF microfluidic chip analyzer, a glass microchip for both PCR and capillary electrophoresis, a chip thermal cycler based on dual Peltier thermoelectric elements, a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) SARS diagnostic kit, and a DNA electrophoretic sizing kit. According to the authors, the system allowed efficient DNA amplification of the SARS coronavirus followed by electrophoretic sizing and detection on the same chip. [Pg.225]

In the next section, we present a brief overview of our SDG-related work. In section 3, we discuss the unified SDG model for control loops. Various fault scenarios are also analyzed. In section 4, two case studies are presented to show the diagnostic efficiency of the proposed framework for fault diagnosis of systems with control loops. The article is concluded with discussion on future work. [Pg.474]

The diagnostic system DK-ID comrising the X-ray densitometer and special equipment for speciments prepare is designed in MSIA Spectrum . This system is actively used by several Russian companies dealing with forestry. The fact of efficient radiographic tomography use, when inspecting the conditions of trees in the forests is also known. [Pg.913]

The impact of a knowledge-based application may appear in many ways improved competitive position, quality improvement, improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and reduction in downtime, to name a few. Some of these benefits may be hard to quantify others may not be quantifiable at all. For example, the actual benefit derived from a diagnostic advisory system may not be apparent if the process behaves normally. To quantify the benefits, a careful post-audit may have to be done, taking into account the number of faults averted, and comparing the frequency of faults before and after implementation. [Pg.537]

The use of vibration analysis is not restricted to predictive maintenance. This technique is useful for diagnostic applications as well. Vibration monitoring and analysis are the primary diagnostic tools for most mechanical systems that are used to manufacture products. When used properly, vibration data provide the means to maintain optimum operating conditions and efficiency of critical plant systems. Vibration analysis can be used to evaluate fluid flow through pipes or vessels, to detect leaks, and to perform a variety of non-destmctive testing functions that improve the reliability and performance of critical plant systems. [Pg.664]

Lead-based, high-temperature superconductors are being studied in several research projects. Their superior performance characteristics are expected to facilitate development of new hyper-fast computers, as well as more sensitive medical diagnostic equipment, more efficient energy delivery systems, and new forms of high-speed surface transportation. [Pg.387]

Technetium and rhenium coordination chemistry has actively developed in order to design materials as potential radiopharmaceuticals diagnostic imaging agents for technetium and potential therapeutic reagents based on rhenium. Continuous efforts are still applied to find efficient chelating systems for the [MO]3+ cores (M=Tc, Re). Thus several complexes with monodentate and... [Pg.46]

In the context of the development of new contrast agents for medical diagnostic imaging, the nanoparticulate carriers have indeed drawn special attention. These systems allow for an efficient site-specific delivery of targeted contrast agents and, due to their size, provide some relaxivity enhancement with respect to the isolated paramagnetic molecules. [Pg.284]

Detection of the bound PNA is possible via on-column fluorescence detection. Efficient single base-pair discrimination was achieved routinely using that technique, as shown in Fig. 7. The system was optimized to observed a difference of 25°C between the perfect match and single-mismatched PNA probe. The assay should be applicable for clinical research and diagnostics and may be automated as well. [Pg.262]
