A 2005 beneficiary survey found that the PSNP has had a significant positive effect on beneficiaries well-being as calculated by both subjective and objective indicators. The survey found that three in five beneficiaries avoided having to sell assets to buy food in 2005, and according to 90 percent of the households, this was a result of their participation in the PSNP. Almost half the beneficiaries surveyed stated that they had used health care facilities more in 2005/6 than in 2004/5, and 76 percent of these households credited the PSNP with this enhanced access. More than one-third of surveyed households enrolled more of their children in school 80 percent of them attributed this to participation in the PSNP... [Pg.420]

The 1992 National Longitudinal Alcohol Epidemiologic Survey (NLAES), based on interviews with a national probability household sample of nearly 43,000 adults age 18 years and older, showed the 1-year prevalence of DSM-IV alcohol use disorder to be 7.4% (i.e., 3.0% with alcohol abuse and 4.4% with alcohol dependence) (Grant et al. 1994). Findings from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC), a community-based survey of nearly 43,000 individuals conducted in 2001—2002 (Grant... [Pg.3]

Forrester estimates that the market for personal medical monitoring will be 34 billion by 2015, rising from 5 billion in 2010. In 2003 they surveyed 12,000 US households in which 84% said they would, if they were ill, pay for services or equipment to help them stay in their home as long as possible. The question of who pays for such services remains a problem, as the same survey identified that only 9% of the consumers sought medical care not covered by their insurance. [Pg.768]

Consistent with the decline in use among youth in these indicators is the decline in self-reported PCP use among youth and young adults in the household population. The National Survey on Drug Abuse showed a significant decline between 1979 and 1982 in the percent of 12- to 17-year-olds and the percent of 18- to 25-year-olds reporting ever having used PCP, from 3.9 percent to 2.2 percent, and from 14.5 percent to 10.5 percent, respectively (Miller et al. 1983). [Pg.181]

An all India primary survey on the lamp users indicates that average replacement rate per household per year for CFLs and FTLs is about 1.26 and 1.05, respectively. The survey also indicated that majority of consumers are not willing to take the direct responsibility in funding system, therefore, a decentralized system of collection should work in Indian conditions. The recovery chain has to be clearly established with incentive-based roles identified for household consumers, retailers, and junk dealers. Further, the onward linkages must be assured so that the collected wastes are recycled and residues adequately disposed of. [Pg.419]

The national indoor air radon survey commenced in the autumn of 1985. In this first phase of the work radon detectors were sent to 400 randomly selected households throughout Ireland, A further 400 households are scheduled to receive detectors by the end of April 1986. At the time of writing radon detectors from a total of 220 households have been recovered and processed. The principal results obtained are shown in Table II, together with the results of the earlier pilot survey and the cumulative results for both sets of data. [Pg.124]

The results for the first phase of the national survey are also presented in histogram form in Figures 1 and 2 together with the annualised effective dose equivalents estimated using the factors given in Table I. It is evident from the data that in the majority of households surveyed the radon concentrations and associated doses are low. In a small percentage of cases however individual households have been found with very high radon... [Pg.124]

In household heating systems running on gas or oil the presence of the flame has to be surveyed. If the flame extinguishes, a burner control system has to reignite the flame or the fuel supply has to be stopped. Several flame-sensing mechanisms are used in the control systems. [Pg.172]

In 1988, the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) included an Occupational Health Supplement, which included questions on dermatitis. The survey consisted of personal interviews of people in randomly selected households. For 30,074 people participating in the NHIS, the period prevalence for all forms of dermatitis was 11.2% and for contact dermatitis was 2.8%. Projecting these results to the U.S. working population resulted in an estimate of 13.7 million people with dermatitis and 3.1 million people with contact dermatitis.67... [Pg.567]

Surveys and interviews show that the attention paid to energy-efficiency investments in companies, public administrations and private households is often very low and heavily influenced by the priorities of those responsible for decision making (Ramesohl, 2000 Schmid, 2004 Stern, 1992). In other cases, project-based economic evaluations do not consider the relatively high transaction costs of the investor and also the substantial risks involved in the case of long-term investments both aspects may be decisive for small efficiency investments (Ostertag, 2003). [Pg.606]
