Surface repair

Ultraviolet Examination. When the surface of many materials is illuminated by ultraviolet light, it emits fluorescence (see Textbox 22). Polyurethane RIM (PU-RIM) was selected for the Initial RIM application of automotive fascia not only because 1t provides the required damage resistance and other performance requirements, but also because the reactivity of the urethane raw materials, Isocyanate and polyol, provide acceptable productivity. Because the urethane mnomers can be nucleated, high quality sink free surfaces that are suitable for automotive exteriors are produced at the time of demold. Little, 1f any, post mold surface repair 1s needed 1n preparation for painting the RIM part. 

Inspection and maintenance can help remove tripping hazards. Remove protruding nails and screws or set them even with the floor surface. Repair damaged tiles, floor boards or carpet. Remove unnecessary mats, electrical cords or similar objects that extend across walking zones. If there are temporary electrical or communication cables across a walking zone, tape them to the floor. Use other protections to prevent tripping on them. Route them overhead if possible.

Mapping Method To introduce this method - the straw man of property modelling - let us remind ourselves about the geometric structure of a map of a faulted surface. Suppose that the faults are normal faults. In such a case each (x, y) point on a horizontal reference plane is mapped into the horizon, or into a fault surface. The boundaries of the fault surfaces are the fault traces which are polygons in the reference plane. The horizon is not itself a continuous surface. However, the union with the fault surfaces repairs the horizon surface to a continuous surface. That this can be done is the main reason for the historical success of mapping software and its main restriction - one cannot describe reverse faults without extensive extra mathematical (and thus software) objects. 

Surfaces can be active in inducing blood clotting, and there is much current searching for thromboresistant synthetic materials for use in surgical repair of blood vessels (see Ref. 111). It may be important that a protective protein film be strongly adsorbed [112]. The role of water structure in cell-wall interactions may be quite important as well [113]. 

The largest market for elastomer-based adhesives is that of lamination (see Laminates). Modem office furniture having Formica as a surfacing material is made with an elastomer-based adhesive. Tile adhesives for ceramic or carpet tile are also elastomer-based and usually solvent appHed. Paper adhesives and shoe manufacture also use substantial quantities of mbber-based materials. Solvent-weld adhesives are used to join plastic plumbing and to repair vinyl sheeting. 

Conserva.tlon, The objectives ia the treatment of stone objects are primarily cleaning, stabilization, consoHdation, repair, and restoration (132—135). Cleaning can vary from a light dusting to the removal of stubborn grime and stains with solvents and detergents. The latter can be appHed usiag a poultice method to iacrease the efficiency with which the extraneous material is removed from below the surface of the stone. 

Space needs to be provided for the auxiliaries, including the lube oil and seal systems, lube oil cooler, intercoolers, and pulsation dampeners. A control panel or console is usually provided as part of the local console. This panel contains instmments that provide the necessary information for start-up and shutdown, and should also include warning and trouble lights. Access must be provided for motor repair and ultimate replacement needs to be considered. If a steam turbine is used, a surface condenser is probably required with a vacuum system to increase the efficiency. AH these additional systems need to be considered in the layout and spacing. In addition, room for pulsation dampeners required between stages has to be included. Aftercoolers may also be required with knockout dmms. Reference 8 describes the requirements of compressor layouts and provides many useful piping hints.
