Cyclonite lots comprised 2500-7500 kg 12.5 kg in paper bags were packed in cardboard boxes, with lids sealed by means of adhesive tape. [Pg.105]

ASP . [Engelh ] Hydrous aluminum silicates extender pigment in paints, inks filler irovidii i acity in plastics in adhesives for corrugated board, laminated fiiber board, paper bag seams in rubber industry, in masdes, putties, caulks, textile and chemical conditioning. [Pg.37]

Dextrins have many applications, with adhesives being their primary market (11,96). Dextrins are used as adhesives for case and carton sealing. For this application, borax is often added to the dextrin to add stability and increase viscosity. Dextrins are added to adhesives used in the laminating of products such as paperboard and shipping containers. The paper industry adds dextrins in adhesives for tube winding and bag adhesives. Library pastes, bottle label adhesives, envelop adhesives, gummed tape, and wall covering adhesives all benefit fiom dextrin addition. [Pg.174]

In other machines, such as paper bag making machines, the adhesive is applied by simple flat discs (Fig. 61). The disc may be grooved to retain the adhesive into the groove or segmented in order to apply interrupted lines of glue. [Pg.132]

Three adhesives are used in paper bag manufacture side seam adhesives, bottom paste adhesives, and cross pastes. The side seam adhesive is used to form a cylinder from a flat sheet of paper. This adhesive must develop a strong bond quickly, so the tube can be cut for further operation. The viscosity should be about 3,000 cP. and solids about 25%. One formulation is water 68%, dextrin 28% heat to 160°F (71°C), add 3% borax, heat to 190°F (88° C), add 3% preservative. A water-resistant formulation is water 1700 pounds, white dextrin 700, soap 2, urea-formaldehyde 70, heat to 200°F (93°C), dilute with cold water to 260 gal volume, and add 14 pounds ammonium chloride. This formulation should be used immediately. Its pH is about 6. ... [Pg.162]

Figure 8 (a) Viscosity/temperature dependence, (b) A very simple way of applying an adhesive just by gentle pumping (manufacture of paper bags). Here the best would be to have a Newtonian adhesive. (Colour version of this figure appears on p. xii.)... [Pg.32]
