Subject experimental details

The student should fiirst read Sections I,l-I,3 which deal with the theory of the subject, and Section 11,12 in which the experimental details are given.

Reconstruction of all the three low-index faces of Au single crystal under elevated temperature has been described in several papers. This subject has been discussed in detail by Dakkouri and Kolb [335], as well as (also for other metals) by Kolb [336], and Gao et al. [337, 338]. A recent concise review of Au reconstruction, including experimental details of the surface preparation, has been published by Trasatti and Lust [4]. 

This type of Birch reduction-alkylation also works in the naphthalene series36. Thus, the naphthalene carboxamides 10. when subjected to the standard Birch reduction-alkylation conditions, furnish a single set of diastereomers 11 (d.r. >95 5 by ]II and 13C NMR no experimental details given)36. 

A hydrobromic acid solution is prepared in a 5-I. round-bottom flask by the reduction of 1000 g. of bromine in the presence of 1100 g. of cracked ice. Experimental details have been given under (A) Hydrobromic Acid. A mixture of 2075 g. of aqueous (48 per cent) hydrobromic acid and 600 g. of concentrated sulfuric add may be used in place of the above reduction mixture. After the addition of 500 g. of ordinary 92 per cent ethyl alcohol, the flask is attached to a long condenser set ready for distillation and 1000 g. of concentrated sulfuric acid are slowly added through a separatory funnel. Because of the volatility of ethyl bromide, the mixture is not heated under reflux, but is subjected instead to slow distillation. The extensive series of known quadruply bound molybdenum dimers has also been the subject of detailed experimental investigations to unravel the electronic properties characterizing excited states in these Mo2+ derivatives. Consideration of the Mo2Xj spectra is presented first since the Mo2(02CR)4 compounds exhibit significantly different features in their electronic spectra. 

The isolation of the 3/3-amino-steroid solanogantine (20) from leaves of S. giganteum was earlier the subject of a preliminary communication.26 Experimental details of this work are now available, together with the description of two new alkaloids, solanogantamine (21a) and isosolanogantamine (22a), which were isolated from the same source.27 The new alkaloids were both isomeric with solanogantine, and they were assigned the structures that are indicated here mainly on the basis of the evidence summarized below. 

Recently, the borylene complex [p-B(NMe2) (r 5-C5H5)Mn(CO)2 2] (1) was subject to detailed computational studies and the theoretically predicted and the experimentally derived structural parameters were found to be in very good agreement (Table I).117 Density functional theoretical studies have concluded that borylenes BX can be viable ligands in the design of transition metal complexes, which are thermodynamically stable with... 

The RRKM offspring was discovered and fostered to maturity by Rabinovitch and his collaborators, who developed theoretical and experimental details to establish its general usefulness. They have made the major contribution to most aspects of the subject, as outlined later. 

The main topics of these symposia were collected in this book and the themes were regrouped under the umbrella of Glycomimetics Modem Synthetic Methodologies. The authors were asked to include key experimental details dealing with modem synthetic procedures, most of which describe the use of delicate transition metal catalyzed reactions. Thus this book will be a valuable tool for well-trained traditional glycochemists and particularly for newcomers in the field of glycomimetics. The subject index at the end of the book will help the readers retrieve die desired informations. 

Communications, called letters or correspondence in some publications, are usually preliminary reports of special significance and urgency that are given expedited publication. They are accepted if the editor believes that their rapid publication will be a service to the scientific community. Communications are generally subject to strict length limitations they must contain specific results to support their conclusions, but they may not contain nonessential experimental details. 

Reviews integrate, correlate, and evaluate results from published literature on a particular subject. They seldom report new experimental findings. Effective review articles have a well-defined theme, are usually critical, and may present novel theoretical interpretations. Ordinarily, reviews do not give experimental details, but in special cases (as when a technique is of central interest), experimental procedures may be included. An important function of reviews is to serve as a guide to the original literature for this reason, accuracy and completeness of references cited are essential. 

The optimal product distribution in many cases is an ultimate goal of applied and even basic research. From the standpoint of the subject under discussion, product distributions are among the most important criteria for the comparison of modeling with experiment. However, it is worth noticing that many experimental details can strongly affect the values used for comparison.
