Studying revision

The studies revised in this chapter correspond to the last 125 km of the Ebro River, from the Riba-roja dam to the river mouth, plus about 100 km of one of the main Ebro tributaries the Cinca/Vero system (see map in Fig. 1 for location of the sites). This area is heavily dammed to regulate the river flow as well as to provide electric power and facilitate water captation for irrigation channels. Dams and overflow dams relevant for the studies revised here are shown in Fig. 1. [Pg.276]

Structure Revisions and General Studies Revision of the Structures of Thirty-seven Lycoctonine-related Diterpenoid Alkaloids.—Lycoctonine was assigned structure (1) on the basis of an X-ray crystallographic analysis of (2) in 1956.4 Since that time, the structures of most of the lycoctonine-type alkaloids have been based on correlations with lycoctonine. [Pg.249]

Word processing on a computer allows for rapid "quick-fix" control of letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs. Computer users also can walk to a printer and obtain a typed, "hard copy" of their document for study, revision, or dissemination. All these soon, certain, positive consequences are connected naturally to word-processing behavior. No wonder... [Pg.229]

The (5s4p2d/3slp) Slater orbital (STO) basis has been used in a study of the quartic force field of H20. These calculations are done using SCF, SD-CI, and with various many-body models. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental force constants, with the many-body values showing better agreement than SD-CI. In fact, the most recent experimental and normal coordinate study revises several of the previously accepted force constants to be more consistent with these theoretical calculations. All of the cubic and quartic constants are determined from the calculations, while the experimental studies typically set many of these constants to zero to facilitate obtaining the force field from the normal coordinate analysis. Hence, the computed SDQ-MBPT(4) quartic force field for H2O is used as input to the local description of H2O in the 0 + H2O surface fit. This is described in detail in section IV. [Pg.775]

Revision Problem 3 House fJ. Org. Chem., 1965, 3 1061) wanted to study intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions and wanted molecules Uke TM 396 in which n is 3 or 4, so that the product will have a 5 or 6 membered ring if the reaction works. Supercomputers, such as the CRAY X-MP, CRAY Y-MP, and CRAY-2, are partially available and used for flow-sheet and optimization studies (7—10). Optimization modules usiag linear and nonlinear programming (LINPRO and UNLPl, based on a revised simplex, and Davidson-Eletcher-PoweU and Broyden methods, respectively) are available ia MicroMENTOR (11). [Pg.62]

To date, a number of simulation studies have been performed on nucleic acids and proteins using both AMBER and CHARMM. A direct comparison of crystal simulations of bovine pancreatic trypsin inliibitor show that the two force fields behave similarly, although differences in solvent-protein interactions are evident [24]. Side-by-side tests have also been performed on a DNA duplex, showing both force fields to be in reasonable agreement with experiment although significant, and different, problems were evident in both cases [25]. It should be noted that as of the writing of this chapter revised versions of both the AMBER and CHARMM nucleic acid force fields had become available. Several simulations of membranes have been performed with the CHARMM force field for both saturated [26] and unsaturated [27] lipids. The availability of both protein and nucleic acid parameters in AMBER and CHARMM allows for protein-nucleic acid complexes to be studied with both force fields (see Chapter 20), whereas protein-lipid (see Chapter 21) and DNA-lipid simulations can also be performed with CHARMM. [Pg.13]

Elucidation of the phase relationships between the different forms of carbon is a difficult field of study because of the very high temperatures and pressures that must be applied. However, the subject is one of great technical importance because of the need to understand methods for transforming graphite and disordered forms of carbon into diamond. The diagram has been revised and reviewed at regular intervals [59-61] and a simplified form of the most recent diagram for carbon [62] is in Fig. 5. [Pg.12]

The interface between lATF and ISO/TC 176 was in the form of a pilot study to consider the implication of sector standards. The output was in the form of a new ISO document a Technical Specification. The requirements for such a document are for a revision within three years and a limit of only one revision, after which it must either cease or become a full standard. The document when submitted for ballot to ISO/TC 176 significantly exceeded the 66% favorable majority required for its adoption. [Pg.12]

The object of the studies is to compute the indices and then take action to reduce common cause variation by preventive maintenance, mistake-proofing, operator training, revision to procedures and instructions, etc. [Pg.368]

I would like to thank Dr. Geraint O. Thomas (Centre for Explosion Studies, Department of Physics, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK) for offering to write Chapter 4. He prepared the first draft, but due to a sabbatical in Japan and other research commitments, he was unable to write the revisions. However, he did make constructive comments and suggestions on the revisions that I wrote. In addition, I would like to thank the following other individuals who provided me with technical data and other assistance based on their knowledge of flame arresters and combustion science and technology G. Despite the lack of interest in human factors issues in the CPI in the past, the situation is now changing. In 1985, Trevor Kletz published his landmark book on human error in the CPI An Engineer s View of Human Error (revised in 1991). Several other books by the same author e.g., Kletz (1994b) have also addressed the issue of human factors in case studies. Two other publications have also been concerned specifically with human factors in the process industry Lorenzo (1990) was commissioned by the Chemical Manufacturers Association in the USA, and Mill (1992), published by the U.K. Institution of Chemical Engineers. In 1992, CCPS and other organizations sponsored a conference on Human Factors and Human Reliability in Process Safety (CCPS, 1992c). This was further evidence of the growing interest in the topic within the CPI. [Pg.12]
