Tape, strapping

When drawdown is high, the film may be uniaxially oriented and the properties of the final film isotropic. In the manufacture of strapping tape this effect is accentuated. If the cast or quenched film is to be used to feed an orientation tine, additional attention must be given to the amorphous—crystalline nature of the film ia the draw processes so that maximum strength can be achieved and uniform gauge and optical quality maintained. Slot casting is used for the orientation of these resins, polyesters, polyamides, and a variety of others. [Pg.379]

Close the lid and tape it with strapping tape. Place the package orientation labels and other warning labels as required by the DOT or IATA on the sides of the cooler. [Pg.102]

Fabrication procedure of gold nanodisk electrodes (NEEs) is schematically shown in Fig. 3.14 (Menon and Martin 1995 Pereira et al. 2006). Step I A piece of the Au/Au-PC/Au membrane is first affixed to a piece of adhesive aluminum foil tape (Fig. 3.14a). Step II A rectangular strip of a copper foil, with a conductive adhesive, is then affixed to the upper Au-coated surface of the Au/Au-PC/Au membrane (Fig. 3.14b). This Cu foil tape acts as a current collector and working electrode lead for the NEE. Step III The upper Au surface layer from the portion of the Au/Au-PC/Au membrane not covered by the Cu foil tape is then removed by simply applying and then removing a strip of Scotch tape. Removal of the Au surface layer exposes the disk-shaped ends of the Au nanowires within the pores of the membrane (Fig. 3.14c). These nanodisks will become the active electrode elements. Step IV The NEE assembly is heat treated at 150°C for 15 min. This produces a water-tight seal between the Au nanowires and the pore walls. Finally, strips of strapping tape are applied to the lower and upper surfaces of the assembly to insulate the Al and Cu foil tapes (Fig. 3.14d). [Pg.82]

Shipping. Close and secure outer container with filamentous shipping/strapping tape. Affix labels and markings. Place a label on the outer container that indicates the proper name, Diagnostic Specimens. A class 9 label should be placed on the outer container of all containers with dry ice. This label must indicate the amount of dry ice in the container, the address of the shipper, and the address of the recipient. This label must be placed on the same side of the container as the Diagnostic Specimens label. [Pg.504]

In reinforced plastics various inorganic materials are dispersed in the polymer. Carbon black reinforced elastomers have already been considered see Section 9.16.2. For fiber composites, two subtypes are important, the short fiber-containing materials, which are thermoplastic, and the continuous filament types, which cannot flow. While short fibers can be melt blended with thermoplastics, they are often embedded in monomeric mixes, followed by polymerization in situ. Continuous fibers are always processed via monomeric mixes which can flow over the beds of fibers. Of course, these monomeric mixes may have polymers or prepolymers dissolved in them, raising the viscosity, and reducing shrinkage on polymerization. An example of the continuous filament type is a tape composite, familiar as the strapping tape used for packaging. [Pg.690]

Strapping tape itself is a very complex material. Continuous glass fibers run though a plastic phase, providing high strength in the long direction. [Pg.690]

Worldwide, approximately 4.53 million tons of PET were collected in 2007. This gave 3.64 million tons of flake. 2.6 million tons were used to produce fibers, 0.3 million tons to produce bottles, 0.37 million tons to produce APET (amorphous PET) sheets for thermoforming, 0.17 million tons to produce strapping tape and 0.12 million tons for miscellaneous applications. [Pg.115]

Strapping tapes, film tapes, monofilaments, fibres and nonwovens are usually stretched immediately after extrusion to achieve considerable increase in ultimate tensile strength in the stretching direction as a result of molecular orientation. The elongation at break correspondingly decreases. The film for stretched tapes can be produced by a cast film technique using either the water quench or chill roll process. [Pg.83]

In the sporting goods industry, considered here as in the health field, there is appreciable use of strapping tapes designed to prevent injury as well as to support injured joints or muscles. These athletic tapes, with deformable cloth backings to facilitate ease of wrapping and easy tear, must also have adhesive masses that permit facile removal. The sports industry also consumes tapes for wrapping hockey stick blades and baseball bat handles. [Pg.659]
