Niche CROs usually specialize in selected disease areas of clinical research, or may concentrate on market segments, such as medical devices, data management, IT functions, or a myriad of other singular service offerings. Such firms can be very valuable to early stage product development enterprises, such as biotechnology start-ups, which may be focused... 

The key challenge at this time for DNDl is long-term sustainable funding. Such funding is the best measure of endorsement for new approaches. Initial funding has been established with five years of start-up financial support from MSF, and with substantial in-kind support from board member organizations and network members. As is the case for the many PPPs, international public sector financial support for DNDl is not yet firmly established. Whether it will be remains to be seen. 

In the United States, the last plant start up was in 1996, but in 2006-2007 some 20 new permit applications were submitted, including one at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland, by UniStar and others by Constellation Energy, Areva (French-German firm), and NRG. In addition, the Tennessee Valley Authority applied to build in Alabama, and Dominion applied in Virginia. The first application to go before the Nuclear Regulating Commission is the NRG plant to be built in Texas. 

A separate contractor should certify clean-room areas. This might be the TAB contractor if that firm is suitably qualified. There should be no question of equipment being operative at this stage of the project since start-up and testing and balancing are complete.
