Stability Europe

Solvent Resistance. Elastomeric fibers tend to swell in certain organic solvents mbber fibers swell in hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane. Spandex fibers become highly swollen in chlorinated solvents such as tetrachloroethylene [127-18-4] (Perclene). Although the physical properties of spandex fibers return to normal after the solvent evaporates, considerable amounts of its stabilizers may have been extracted. Therefore, the development of stabilizers that are more resistant to solvent extraction has become important as solvent scouring during mill processing replaces aqueous scouring at many mills, especially in Europe (26). [Pg.309]

Red Phosphorus. This aHotropic form of phosphoms is relatively nontoxic and, unlike white phosphoms, is not spontaneously flammable. Red phosphoms is, however, easily ignited. It is a polymeric form of phosphoms having thermal stabiUty up to ca 450°C. In finely divided form it has been found to be a powerful flame-retardant additive (26,45—47). In Europe, it has found commercial use ia molded nylon electrical parts ia a coated and stabilized form. Handling hazards and color have deterred broad usage. The development of a series of masterbatches by Albright Wilson should facihtate further use. [Pg.476]

Rigid Applications. The use of the lead stabilizers is very limited in the United States but, they are stiU used in several rigid PVC appHcations in Europe and Asia. The highest use of lead stabilizers in rigid PVC is for pipe and conduit appHcations. Tribasic lead sulfate is the primary heat stabilizer with lead stearates included to provide lubrication. The lead products are typically fully formulated, usually including lubricants and pigments for pipe extmsion appHcations. These lead one-packs, when used at about 1.8—2.5 phr, provide all of the stabilizer and lubrication needed to process the polymer. A lead one-pack contains tribasic lead sulfate, dibasic lead stearate calcium stearate, polyethylene wax, paraffin wax, ester wax, and pigments. [Pg.552]

Dibasic Lead Sulfate. Dibasic lead sulfate [12036-76-9] 2PbOPbSO, is a white powder, mol wt 749.70, mp 961°C. The dibasic compound can be prepared by fusion of the two components. It has been sold as a PVC stabilizer in Japan and is sold in Europe in combination with dibasic lead phosphite. [Pg.70]

Tetrabasic Lead Sulfate. Tetrabasic lead sulfate [12065-90-6] 4PbO PbSO, mol wt 1196.12, sp gr 8.15, is made by fusion of stoichiometric quantities of Htharge (PbO) and lead sulfate (PbSO heat of formation, Ai/ = — 1814 kJ/mol (—434.1 kcal/mol). Alternatively, tetrabasic lead sulfate may be prepared by boiling the components in aqueous suspensions. At about 70°C, tribasic hydrate reacts with lead oxide to form tetrabasic sulfate. At 80°C, this transformation is complete in - 20 hours. Tetrabasic lead sulfate is used in limited quantities in Europe as a PVC stabilizer. However, in the United States, lead-acid batteries have been developed by BeU Telephone Laboratories, which contain tetrabasic lead sulfate. Such batteries are used for emergency power at telephone switchboard stations and have an anticipated service life of over 50 years. [Pg.70]

Ammonium chloride [12125-02-9], ammonium sulfate [7783-20-2], and diammonium phosphate [7708-28-0] have also been used for shale stabilization (102,103). Ammonium ions have essentially the same effect on shales as potassium ions but use of ammonium salts is often objectionable because of the alkaline nature of the mud. In the North Sea and northern Europe, where magnesium-bearing salt formations ate encountered, magnesium chloride [7786-30-3] is used, but in the United States it is used only on a small scale. [Pg.182]

Bisoprolol fumarate is a long-acting, cardioselective -adrenoceptor blocker, and is the most potent cardioselective -adrenoceptor blocker available. Bisoprolol has no ISA. At high concentrations it has membrane-stabilizing activity. The dmg has a "balanced clearance", ie, half is excreted by the kidneys and half is eliminated by the Hver and its excretion is not affected by functional impairment of either organ. It is approved in Europe for hypertension and is being studied in angina (43). [Pg.127]

Bevantolol hydrochloride is a moderately lipophilic, long-acting, cardioselective -adrenoceptor blocker. It has no ISA but has membrane-stabilizing activity. The dmg is in use in Europe for the treatment of hypertension and angina. It is rapidly absorbed from the GI tract. Peak plasma levels occur in 1—2 h. It is metabolized extensively in the Hver to a metaboHte that has some ISA. It is excreted by the Hver and the kidneys and excretion is delayed in patients having kidney failure. [Pg.127]

For many years atactic polypropylene was an unwanted by-product but today it finds use in a number of markets and is specially made for these purposes rather than being a by-product. In Europe the main use has been in conjuction with bitumen as coating compounds for roofing materials, for sealing strips where it confers improved aging properties and in road construction where it improves the stability of asphalt surfaces. Less important in Europe but more important in USA is its use for paper laminating for which low-viscosity polymers are used, often in conjunction with other resins. Limestone/atactic... [Pg.267]

Structured laundry liquids are currently available in Europe and were recently introduced in the United States [50,51]. These products typically contain high levels of surfactants and builder salts, as well as enzymes and other additives. In the presence of high ionic strength, the combination of certain anionic and nonionic surfactants form lamellar liquid crystals. Under the microscope (electron microscope, freeze fracturing) these appear as round droplets with an onion-like, multilayered structure. Formation of these droplets or sperulites permits the incorporation of high levels of surfactants and builders in a pourable liquid form. Stability of the dispersion is enhanced by the addition of polymers that absorb onto the droplet surface to reduce aggregation. [Pg.138]

A further aspect that may add to the development work relates to the method of administration. In addition to the standards methods of administration associated with human medicines, veterinary medicines may be introduced to animals through medicated feeds. Such practices have been most commonly associated with the use of antibiotics or other substances to enhance animal performance under intensive farming systems. The use of medicated feeds has been phased out in Europe since the end of 2005, with the exception of coccidiostats and histomonostats intended to kill or inhibit protozoa. In the U SA, however, medicated feeds are still commonplace. Thus, the developer may have to consider the stability and appropriate labelling of the drug when compounded into medicated feeds. [Pg.130]

In the nineteenth century dammar, a soft resin derived from trees of southern Asia was introduced in Europe and used for making colourless varnish. Mixed with oil of turpentine it has become the preferred varnish for oil painting, due to its superior optical properties and better ageing stability than the other natural resins. [Pg.329]
