Metasilicate sodium

The salt Na2Si03, known as water-glass, is used instead of orthosilidc add. It is stored in basic media. To perform sol-gel processes, hydrochloric add is added. When the pH drops below 7, a transition into a gel state is observed. The chemical readion can be represented as follows  [Pg.80]

It is obvious from Equation (6) that the processes are accompanied by sodium chloride produdion. The salt content reaches a significant amount that sometimes poses a problem. The NaCl is withdrawn by dialysis that makes the silica fabrication inconvenient owing to this additional time consuming procedure. As a further disadvantage of sodium metasilicate, it is believed to be not very flexible in regulation of the silica morphology [61]. [Pg.80]

Addition of as little as 5% soap to an amphoteric LSDA of limited water solubility (high Krafft point) brought about a substantial lowering of the Krafft point and thus markedly improved water solubility. On the other hand, addition of 10% of amphoteric LSDA to sodium palmitate lowered the Krafft point of the soap by 10-14°C. Addition of anionic LSDA to sodium palmitate showed smaller Krafft point depression. Addition of a builder-type salt, such as sodium metasilicate, had essentially no effect on the Krafft points of soap-LSDA mixtures. [Pg.642]

In order to probe the influence of Au and KOAc on the vinyl acetate synthesis chemistry, four different catalysts were synthesized. All of these catalysts were prepared in a manner exemplified in prior patent technology [Bissot, 1977], and each contained the same palladium loading in an egg-shell layer on the surface of a spherical silica support. The palladium content in the catalyst was easily controlled by adjusting the solution strength of palladium chloride (PdClj) added to the porous silica beads prior to its precipitation onto the support by reaction with sodium metasilicate (Na SiOj). The other two catalyst components (Au and KOAc) were either present or absent in order to complete the independent evaluation of their effect on the process chemistry, e.g., (1) Pd-i-Au-hKOAc, (2) Pd-i-KOAc, (3) Pd-hAu, and (4) Pd only. [Pg.191]

The fluid loss and thickening time characteristics of the cement slurry is altered, either by increasing the molecular weight of the lignin by cross-linking with formaldehyde or epichlorohydrin or by adding agents such as sodium sulfite, sodium metasilicate, sodium phosphate, and sodium naphthalene sulfonate. [Pg.46]

Another method is amination with a polyamine and an aldehyde [1567]. The formulation also contains sodium carbonate, sodium phosphate, sodium sulfite, sodium metasilicate, or naphthalene sulfonate. The sulfonated or sulfomethyl-ated aminated lignin shows less retardation (shorter thickening time) than a sulfonated or sulfomethylated lignin without the attached amine. [Pg.46]

TEOS is of considerable current use on an industrial scale owing to some advantages over sodium metasilicate. Limitations on the sol-gel processing with TEOS arise in the entrapment of biopolymers in silica. They are caused primarily by the alcohol that is separated in the course of precursor hydrolysis Equation (7). Most... [Pg.80]

The platelet hist UIline release assay demonstrated that cotton mill dust extract, cotton bract extract, cotton leaf extract, dialyzed CMD extract, polyphenols, compound 48/80, rutin, trimethylamine HCl, quercetin, catechin, tannic acid, ellagic acid and sodium metasilicate all release histamine directly (48). Thus not only do tannin compounds induce histamine release, but they may also form higher molecular weight polymers and contain components that survive acid hydrolytic conditions (48). Tannins are widely distributed in the plant kingdom. [Pg.176]

Coesite. Coesite, the second most dense (3.01 g/cm3) phase of silica, was first prepared in the laboratory by heating a mixture of sodium metasilicate and diammoniiim hydrogen phosphate or another mineralizer at 500—800°C and 1.5—3.5 GPa (14,800—34,540 atm). Coesite has also been prepared by oxidation of silicon with silver carbonate under pressure (67). The structure is monodinic a0 = b0 = 717 pm, c0 = 1.238 pm, and 7 = 120°. There are 16 Si03 units per unit cell the space group is C2/c. Coesite persists as a basically stranded phase at atmospheric pressure and is a stable phase at... [Pg.476]
