SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE solution

IODOFORM FROM ACETONE. (Semi-micro Scale.) Required Acetone, 0 5 ml. 10% potassium iodide solution, 20 ml. 10% sodium hydroxide solution, 8 ml. zM sodium hypochlorite solution, 20 ml. [Pg.92]

Iodoform reaction. To i ml. of the aldehyde solution, add 3 ml. of 10% KI solution and 10 ml. of freshly prepared sodium hypochlorite solution. Yellow crystals of iodoform, CHI3, soon separate. [Pg.344]

The commercial 10-14 per cent, sodium hypochlorite solution should be diluted with an equal volume of water. [Pg.299]

By treatment of an amide with sodium hypobromite or sodium hypochlorite solution (or with the halogen and alkali), the amine of one less carbon atom is produced, the net result being the elimination of the carbonyl group. An example is ... [Pg.413]

Anthranilic acid. This substance, the ortho amino derivative of benzoic acid, may be conveniently prepared by the action of sodium hypobromite (or sodium hypochlorite) solution upon phthalimide in alkaline solution at 80°. The ring in phthalimide is opened by hydrolysis to phthalamidic acid and the latter undergoes the Hofmann reaction (compare Section 111,116) ... [Pg.754]

Sodium Hypochlorite Solution. Sodium hypochlorite (Uquid bleach) is usually bottled as a 10—15% available CI2 solution, containing... [Pg.296]

A 5—6% sodium hypochlorite solution is sold for household purposes, of which the largest use is in laundry. Solutions of 10—15% NaOCl are sold for swimming pool disinfection, institutional laundries, and industrial purposes. Solutions of various strengths are used in household and industrial and institutional (I I) cleaners, disinfectants, and mildewcides. A small amount is used in textile mills. Sodium hypochlorite is also made on site with 30—40 g/L available chlorine for pulp bleaching, but its use is decreasing in order to reduce chloroform emissions (see Chlorine oxygen acids and salts). [Pg.143]

Historically, bleaching powder and tropical bleach were significant sources of available chlorine but very Httle are used today. This is because of the greater availabiUty of sodium hypochlorite solutions and the development of calcium hypochlorite. They are stiU used to sanitize fields, drainage ditches, and reservoirs where its insoluble portion is not important. And, they are important sources of available chlorine within some less developed tropical countries. [Pg.143]

Commercial Processes. Olin s earlier triple salt process, originally commercialized in 1928, was modified in 1983. In the patented process, a slurry of dibasic calcium hypochlorite is mixed with a strong, low salt sodium hypochlorite solution and hypochlorite Hquors and chlorinated. The resultant Ca(OCl)2 2H20 slurry is filtered, the cake going to the dry-end and the filtrate to the dibasic precipitation step where it reacts with lime. [Pg.473]

Water Tests. In colorfastness to water, ISO 10S-E01, the test specimen is placed in contact with the chosen adjacent fabrics, immersed in water, and placed wet between glass plates and left for 4 h at 37°C. After drying, the effect on the test specimen and stain on adjacents are assessed. The test, colorfastness to seawater, ISO 10S-E02, is the same as EOl but uses 30 g/L anhydrous sodium chloride solution instead of water. To test for colorfastness to chlorinated seawater/swimming baths water, ISO 10S-E03, the specimen is immersed in sodium hypochlorite solution containing either 100, 50, or 20 mg of active chlorine per Hter at pH 7.5 for 1 h at 27°C, rinsed, dried, and assessed. [Pg.376]

Fair Good 145 6.3 Excellent resistance to wet chlorine gas and sodium hypochlorite solutions... [Pg.2447]

Photographers hypo (sodium thiosulfate solution) and ordinary hypo (sodium hypochlorite solution)... [Pg.105]

Alkalis Molybdenum is moderately resistant to aerated solutions of ammonium hydroxide and is inert when oxygen is excluded. It has only fair resistance in aerated 1 % sodium hydroxide at 35°C and 60°C but its resistance is better in a 10% solution at both these temperatures. It is severely corroded in sodium hypochlorite solutions (pH 11 or higher) at 35°C (Table 5.4). [Pg.845]

For example, the common use of sodium hypochlorite solution, NaOCl, as a bleaching solution depends upon the oxidizing action of hypochlorite, OC1-. Iodate ion, IO, also furnishes a strong oxidizing power, as shown by E° for the half-reaction I2-IO ... [Pg.360]

There was an attempt to treat spreadings of organic sulphides or thiols with calcium hypochlorite in the solid state. These treatments usually ended with a violent reaction followed by the compounds igniting. Nevertheless, this does not represent any danger when using sodium hypochlorite solutions at 15%. [Pg.346]

Prohexadione-calcium degrades in aqueous sodium hypochlorite solution. [Pg.538]
