Society of Public Analysts

Numerous methods for the alkaloidal assay of lobelia and its galenical preparations have been published and two recent critical surveys, by a special committee of the Society of Public Analysts and by Caulkin, indicate that the process of Markwell is satisfactory. Processes for the isolation and separation of the various alkaloids have been protected by patent. Balandin states that Lobelia sessiliflora contains less alkaloid than L. injiata but yields a high-quality lobeline. [Pg.23]

These comments were made near the end of a talk at a meeting of the Society of Public Analysts, a group composed principally of analytical chemists and medical doctors. During the discussion which followed, almost no reference was made to Hopkins new ideas and remarks, in itself a measure of the newness of such ideas along with the inability or ignorance or lack of attention paid to such comments by the group in attendance. [Pg.76]

The development of standard methods of analysis has been a prime objective of the Analytical Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its precursors, the Society of Public Analysts and the Society for Analytical Chemistry, since the earliest of days and the results of this work have been recorded in the pages of The Analyst since its inception in 1876. An Analytical Investigation Scheme was proposed by A. Chaston Chapman in 1902. This later evolved into the Standing Committee on Uniformity of Analytical Methods and was charged with developing standard chemicals and securing comparative analyses of these standard materials. [Pg.1]

In 1980, the Chemical Society, the Institute of Chemistry and two other societies which had been formed in the meantime (the Faraday Society (for physical chemistry) and the Society for Analytical Chemistry (formerly the Society of Public Analysts)), merged to form the Royal Society of Chemistry. Early in the twentieth century the American Chemical Society organised itself into divisions representing various specialisms and interests, and was thereby more successful in preventing the proliferation of societies which occurred in Britain. [Pg.246]

Part of the issue is one of communication from the companies themselves. Analysts and investors depend a great deal on communications from the company to know what issues are financially material. In a public forum hosted by the New York Society of Security Analysts, a chemical industry sell-side analyst said, We rely on the company to tell us when these issues are material. ... [Pg.450]

The 1860 Act established the appointment of Public Analysts, who included amongst their ranks a number of medically qualified analysts. In the decade after 1860 much attention was paid to the need for a legally acceptable and workable definition of adulteration. One of the early proposals formulated for inclusion in the new Sale of Food Act 1875, is given in a history of the Society of Analytical Chemistry. This was to the effect that a food or drink shall be deemed to be adulterated ... [Pg.229]

Examination of Water, Sewage and Industrial Wastes (American Public Health Association, New York, 1955) Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products (American Public Health Association) Official Methods of Analysis (International Society of Leather Trades Chemists) which is in English and French Methods of Analysis of Fats and Feeds (American Oil Chemists Society), Methods of Analysis of Malt Beverages (American Society of Brewing Chemists). The British Standards Yearbook and its sectional lists contain much information of interest to analysts, as do the various national codexes, pharmacopeias and formularies. [Pg.134]

In general, policy analysts examine sources of conflict in a market society and determine what the government might do to improve firm and consumer choices. This book examines the specific issue of chemicals in our modern industrial society and discusses how government can enhance public health. In this context, important policy issues include ... [Pg.1]

Accurate, precise, sensitive, and rapid analytical determinations are as essential in food science and technology as in chemistry, biochemistry, and other physical and biological sciences. In many cases, the same methodologies are used. How does one, especially a young scientist, select the best methods to use A review of original publications in a given field indicates that some methods are cited repeatedly by many noted researchers and analysts, but with some modifications adapting them to the specific material analyzed. Official analytical methods have been adopted by some professional societies, such as the Official Methods of Analysis (Association of Official Analytical Chemists), Official Methods and Recommendation Practices (American Oil Chemists Society), and Official Methods of Analysis (American Association of Cereal Chemists). [Pg.1392]
