Slurry weighting agents

The soft-mud process is used to make handmade btick. Mote water is added to the clay to make a thinner paste, typicaHy about 20 to 30% by weight of water. The resulting slurry is packed into molds that have a sand or water coating on them that acts as a release agent. The wet brick shapes ate removed from the molds when they have set up enough to handle and ate then stacked for drying and burning. [Pg.324]

One such decontaminant is supertropical bleach (STB). STB is a mixture of chlorinated lime and calcium oxide containing about 30% available chlorine. It can be used either as a dry mix or as a slurry to decontaminate some equipment surfaces and terrain. The dry mix is prepared with two parts bleach to three parts earth by volume. A slurry typically consists of 40 parts STB to 60 parts by weight of water. This material is then sprayed or swabbed on the contaminated surface (see Bleaching agents). STB is an effective decontaminant for mustard, lewisite, and VX. It is less effective against nerve agents other than VX. [Pg.404]

The fluid loss and thickening time characteristics of the cement slurry is altered, either by increasing the molecular weight of the lignin by cross-linking with formaldehyde or epichlorohydrin or by adding agents such as sodium sulfite, sodium metasilicate, sodium phosphate, and sodium naphthalene sulfonate. [Pg.46]

Solids. Treatment of mustard agents by the SILVER II process results in the precipitation of silver chloride, which, if not removed, could cause cell plugging. This precipitate is removed from the main circuit in a slurry underflow from hydrocyclones in the anolyte feed stream circuit. Subsequently, this slurry is dewatered in a centrifuge to approximately 50 weight percent AgCl, with the remainder of the slurry consisting of water, nitric acid, silver nitrate, and trace amounts of other materials in the anolyte loop. [Pg.61]

Butyl rubber is one product formed when isobutylene is copolymerized with a few percents of isoprene. In the Exxon process an isobutylene-methyl chloride mixture containing a small amount of isoprene is mixed at — 100°C with a solution of AICI3 in methyl chloride. An almost instantaneous reaction yields the product, which is insoluble in methyl chloride and forms a fine slurry. Molecular weight can be controlled by adding diisobutylene as a chain-transfer agent. Increased catalyst concentration and temperature also result in lowering molecular weight. The product can be vulcanized and is superior to natural rubber. A solution process carried out in C5-C7 hydrocarbons was developed in the former Soviet Union.471,472... [Pg.774]

Small Areas Puddles of liquid must be contained by covering with vermiculite, diatomaceous earth, clay, fine sand, sponges, paper towels or cloth towels. Remove all material and place in a container. Decontaminate the area with copious amounts of full strength household bleach. A 10 weight percent HTH pool bleach/water slurry may be substituted for the bleach solution. Removal of porous material, including painted surfaces, that may have absorbed Vesicant liquid may be required as these materials could continue to re-release vapor after exposure has ceased. Surfaces contaminated with Vesicants and only rinsed may still evolve sufficient agent vapor to produce a physiological response. [Pg.50]
