Skins impregnating

The toxicity of chloronaphthalenes requires that special attention and caution be used during their manufacture and use acne is the most common result of excessive skin exposure to them and the most frequendy affected areas are the face and neck (16). Liver damage has occurred in workers who have been exposed repeatedly to vapors, particulady to those of penta- and hexachloronaphthalene [1335-87-1] (17,18). Uses for the chlorinated naphthalenes include solvents, gauge and instmment duids, capacitor impregnants, components in electric insulating compounds, and electroplating stop-off compounds. 

The fumes of zinc chloride are highly toxic and can damage mucous membranes and cause pale gray cyanation. It can also ulcerate the skin of workers using it as a soldering flux or those handling wood impregnated with it (59). 

Epilation is required for permanent hair removal. The most effective epilation process is electrolysis or a similar procedure. Epilation can also be achieved by pulling the fibers out of the skin. Eor this purpose, wax mixtures (rosia and beeswax) are blended with Hpids, for example, oleyl oleate, which melt at a suitable temperature (about 50—55°C). The mixture is appHed to the site (a cloth tape may be melted iato the mass) and after cooling is rapidly pulled off the skin. A similar process can be carried out with a tape impregnated with an aggressive adhesive. 

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is used by producers as a biocide to kill moulds that may cause furniture or shoe leather to deteriorate during storage and transportation in a humid climate. Placed in sachets, which are fixed inside the furniture or added to the footwear boxes, DMF evaporates and impregnates the leather, protecting it from moulds. However, it has been found to seriously affect consumers who were in contact with the products. DMF penetrated through the clothes onto the skin of many consumers. Cases of severe health problems have been reported in UK, Finland, France and Poland. Although it is normally not used by tanneries, there are examples where tanneries have used DMF.
