A multisite ERP application is presented in Figure 38.2. The ERP application is based on a single SAP R/3 production instance installed on a computer located at the company s HQ offices. The HQ users access the SAP R/3 application, as well as users from four different manufacturing sites geographically distributed at different locations. All users access the application through the WAN.

The battery limit is a geographic boundary which deflnes the manufacturing area of the process. This includes process equipment and buildings or structures to house it but excludes boilerhouse facilities, pollution control, site infrastructure, etc. 

Plant A plant is the collec tion of production facilities at a geographical site. The production facihties at a site normally share warehousing, utilities, and the like. 

Logistics—If a company is geographically located such that it can not meet the desired service level and deliveiy requirements of its customers, tolling may provide a local production and distribution site. Shorter transportation routes for hazardous chemicals or wastes may also be a consideration. 

The siting of substations, electrical, geographic, economic, political, and aesthetic factors must be considered. The high voltages of the transmission system are utilized because the reduced currents result in more efficient power transmission. Geographical location plant site location, general proximity to other structures and other factors relating to recirculation of exit air back to the inlet of the tower. 

Establish the wet bulb temperature for the air at the geographical site of the tower. Use weather bureau records if other data are not available. Use caution, do not select a value too high. 

The surface water runoff from paved/hard standing areas also depends on rainfall intensity calculated from the geographical locations of the site and storm-return period. However, the return period for a site will be far higher than for a building in order to ensure prevention of persistent flooding of the site. In many instances the local authority may specify the storm-return period as the design criterion. 

A comprehensive table of corrosion rates in sea water has been compiled by LaQue . This appears to show no obvious dependence of corrosion rates on the geographical location of the testing site, and few of the rates depart widely from an average of 0-11 mm/y. It is suggested that a figure of 0-13 mm/y may be taken as a reasonable estimate of the expected rate of corrosion of steel or iron continuously immersed in sea water under natural conditions, in any part of the world. 

No geographic structure was revealed by this analysis, with trees from Arch Cape, Oregon, Whitetish, Montana, and sites from northern British Columbia, including Queen Charlotte Islands, being closely associated. The authors remarked on the lack of differentiation between coastal and interior populations. A reinvestigation of red cedar from 55 sites (3-6 trees per site) provided a new data set that was analyzed by numerical and discriminant-function analyses (von Rudloff et al., 1988). These analyses confirmed the low intra- and interpopulational variation seen in the earlier study, but did reveal small differences between coastal and interior populations. No correlations between northern and southern populations emerged from the analyses likewise, elevation had no effect on terpene composition.
