Site selection local community

Once the site is selected, the land purchase must be made. Usually a third party such as a real estate agent is employed to do this work. It is advisable first to secure an option to buy the land so that all of the potential problems can be evaluated or solved before the purchase is made. Other negotiations besides the purchase or lease of the site also need to be negotiated. Zoning, easement, building costs, access roads, taxes, and the like need to be settled before the land is purchased. It is best to keep the identity of the purchaser secret while all this is being handled. Contact between the plant owner and utilities, railroads, pipelines, and the local community need to be finalized in writing before a final purchase. 

The key stakeholder interactions in the siting phase of the WIPP repository program were between the scientific community (NAS) and DOE, with the local community in the city of Carlsbad being supportive of the site selection process. 

Attention should be given to the potential for floods, snowfall, wind severity, and earthquakes in the area. Site selection should also consider availability of closeness to raw materials and to customers, access roads, municipal fire protection, water supply, and distance from the local community.

Aggressive, early antimicrobial therapy is critical in the management of septic patients. The regimen selected should be based on the suspected site of infection, likely pathogens, and the local antibiotic susceptibility patterns, whether the organism was acquired from the community or a hospital, and the patient s immune status. 

In another approach to serving industry through technology transfer, the FLC s Far West Region has begun a demonstration project to establish an active brokerage service within the industrial community. The city of Santa Clara, California (in the heart of "silicon valley") was selected as the first trial and demonstration site. A Task Force composed of representatives of the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce, the local business community, the FLC, the Southwest Innovation Group and the City of Santa Clara was formed to develop a plan of action and to develop an operational structure. 

One of the CERCLA and RCRA remedy selection factors noted earlier is community acceptance. It is, however, only a modifying factor. Community members can influence and sometimes take actions that lead to the rejection of remedial alternatives that they oppose, but they do not have the authority to veto otherwise scientifically acceptable alternatives.10 There are also additional, more formal activities associated with federal facility restoration activities, such as funding of restoration site advisory boards composed of local citizens. 

Selection of response actions that result in the recovery, or maintenance, of healthy local populations/communities of ecological receptors that are (or should be) present at the site furthermore, in support of proper risk management, risk assessors are advised to select assessment endpoints and measures (as defined in ERAGS) that are ecologically relevant to the site and include species that are exposed and sensitive to response to site contaminants, such as explosives. In addition, if individual threatened or endangered (T E) species or critical habitats for such species are present at a site, the Endangered Species Act may be declared an applicable or relevant and appropriate requirement (ARAR) within the ERA of the site. 

In conclusion, even though the precise relationship between plaque bacteria and the initiation of caries and periodontal disease is not fully understood, it is clear that these diseases do not involve the introduction of new microbes in the mouth but result from a localized imbalance in the bacterial composition of the plaque, which allows the proliferation of selected members of the community with pathological results. When normal commensal bacteria produce disease in this way they are called opportunist pathogens. The disease itself can then lead to new sites becoming open to colonization and the evolution of different and usually more extreme communities. The carious cavity and the periodontal pocket are examples of this the former...
