Surfaces. Essentially any electrically conductive surface can be electroplated, although special techniques may be required to make the surface electrically conductive. Many techniques ate used to metalline nonconductive surfaces. These are weU-covered ia the Hterature (3) and can range from coating with metallic-loaded paints or reduced-silver spray, to autocatalytic processes on tin—palladium activated surfaces or vapor-deposited metals. Preparation steps must be optimized and closely controlled for each substrate being electroplated. [Pg.143]

Inhalant is a term applied to an estimated 1,000 to 1,400 legal products used in households, industry, businesses, and medical settings. These products are as common as a felt-tip marker, a bottle of correction fluid or nail polish remover, a tank of gasoline, a tube of model airplane glue, air freshener or vegetable cooking spray, or a can of silver spray paint. [Pg.255]

Over 1,000 products are abused as inhalants. Users may initially choose an inhalant because of its availability, but most indicate individual preferences for certain chemicals. Sniffers will often choose a specific product to abuse, be it a brand of glue, correction fluid, gold or silver spray paint, or whippets. Silver-spray process n. A metallizing process based on glass-mirror art. The plastic article is first cleaned and lacquered as in vacuum metallizing, then the lacquer is sensitized in an oxidizing aqueous solution of sulfuric acid and potassium dichromate. A silver-forming solution, e.g., silver nitrate and an aldehyde, is sprayed on the article with a two-nozzle spray gun so that the components mix at the surface. After rinsing and drying a final topcoat of lacquer is applied over the silver. [Pg.887]

This conversion is normally accompHshed by immersion, but spraying, swabbing, bmshing, and electrolytic methods are also employed (178) (see Metal SURFACE treatments).
