The soaps produced by saponification may give excessive foam during spray cleaning or react with hard-water salts to form scum and scale. [Pg.284]

Spray cleaning of parts with solvent, using an airless gun similar to a paint sprayer, is also practiced. Spray cleaning is typically performed in a ventilated fume hood so as to protect the worker from solvent fumes. In addition to the fume hood, an emissions control system is often required. Many local air quality agencies prohibit the spray cleaning of parts with solvent or require an appropriate emission control system to be in place. [Pg.226]

If, upon arrival, you ve arranged for a rental car, make sure you tell the rental agency to reserve you an old car in which nothing is sprayed, cleaning detergents have not recently been applied and there is no air freshener. [Pg.173]

Fig. 4.5. Dynawave scrubber for removing particulate and soluble impurities from cooled (600 K), partially cleaned furnace offgas (Puricelli et al., 1998 Enviro-chem, 2005). Note the (i) upward sprays in and (ii) the weir atop the downcomer. The sprays clean the gas. The weir continuously overflows water, which wets and cools the downcomer walls. These scrubbers are used for both metallurgical and spent acid regeneration furnace gases. Large scrubber details are downcomer diameter 1 m (Hastelloy G30)... Fig. 4.5. Jets of high-speed steam are used in spray cleaning. Steam at 15.0 bar with 150 C of superheat is fed to a well-insulated valve at a rate of 1.00 kg/s. As the steam passes through the valve, its pressure drops to 1.0 bar. The outlet stream may be totally vapor or a mixture of vapor and liquid. Kinetic and potential energy changes may be neglected. [Pg.348]

In high-speed spray cleaning, a critical factor is the dynamic surface tension reduction of the surfactant solution (Chapter 5, Section IV), rather than its... [Pg.356]

In spray cleaning (also called clean in place), there is a significant mechanical energy input to aid in the cleaning action but the contact time can be very short. [Pg.391]
