The use of 3D models for tubular cells is particularly interesting, especially for studying the new geometries. In the literature the applications are very few and the reason is the large computational load. Here some of the results of current research conducted by the research group at Politecnico di Torino are shown. A first application is the 3D model of the tubular cell by Siemens. The calculated temperature field is shown in Figure 7.14. 

According to some projections, the energy densities of DMFCs could be considerably higher than those of even lithium-ion batteries, so that DMFCs could find applications for low power applications (laptop computers, backpack power sources for soldiers). IFC in the United States, Siemens and Daimler in Germany have designed, constructed, and tested kW-size DMFC power plants. Research studies in several government laboratories, universities, and industries have shown the prospects of attaining a current density of 400 mA cm-2 at a cell potential of 0.5 V. 

We used SIEMENS D 5005 X-ray Diffractometer to investigate crystal structure and quality. PL spectrum was measured by 325 nm He-Cd laser. The PL signals from the sample were filtered by a monochromator and picked up computer. X-ray photoemission spectra (XPS) were performed on ESCALAB Mark II X-ray photoemission spectrometer. 

For the best metal hydride stores, the capacity (hours of operation) could be increased 5-fold over Li ion batteries of the same volume, and this option has attracted some attention. Giither and Otto (1999) describe a Siemens-Nixdorf experimental laptop computer with such a store, obtaining a 3-fold...

The epilogue to Union Carbide s story can be expressed in a single sentence. In 2001 Dow Chemical acquired Union Carbide for 9.3 billion. The situation was similar to that of Fujitsu s acquisition of Siemens Nixdorf, Europe s leading computer company in 1999, as described in my earlier book Inventing the Electronic Century. Where else could the remaining weaker multisectored core company have gone ... 

In the United States the first mover in consumer electronics was RCA, a joint venture of General Electric, Westinghouse, and AT T. In Europe it was Telefunken, a joint venture of Siemens and AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitats-Gessellschaft). So too, the electronic computer was primarily crafted by International Business Machines (IBM), the builder of the first major information processing enterprise using electrically driven punched-card tabulators. 

Phase identification of the catalysts was carried out by powder X-ray diffractometiy using a Siemens D501 computer-controlled difftactometer, with monochromatized Cu Ka radiation. Patterns were registered in steps of 0.08°, in the angular range 20 to 65° 26, with integration times of 5 seconds per step. The sanq>les were dusted through a deve onto the holder surfrce to reduce preferred orientation. The obtained patterns were conq>ared with JCPDS data files. 

Using Siemens PLC as the core, designs the real-time monitoring system of the hoist braking system, which can be used as a staff member to management and maintenance of auxiliary hoist analysis tools. The main features include real-time online monitoring, human-computer interaction interface. 

As a result some computer manufacturers, such as Hewlett-Packard, have shifted to phosphorus-based FRs in housings for computer monitors. Siemens has developed a phosphoms-based alternative to the TBBA used in the epoxy resin laminates that are the basis of all circuit boards. 

Patient data acquisition is based on spiral CT and the whole data processing part is optimized for it. MRI could be used instead of spiral CT, but is not implemented yet. For spiral CT, scanning multirow detector computed tomography is used in the past the detector used was a GE Lightspeed QXl Scanner (GE Systems, Milwaukee, Wl, USA), but recently there was an opportunity to use a Siemens Somatom Sensation (Siemens Medical System Inc., Forchheim, Germany).

Despite its relatively short history, CAD is becoming a maj or area of investigation and developments in CTC. Rapid technical developments have established the fundamental CAD scheme for the detection of polyps during the last several years. Prototype CAD systems have been demonstrated at conferences (Nappi et al. 2005b Yoshida et al. 2004b) (Fig. 11.1) and commercial systems that implement the full CAD scheme or a part of it are becoming available in the market with names such as the Poly Enhanced View (Siemens Medical Solutions) and Colon Computer-Assisted Rader (MedicSight Inc.).
