Shop grades

As with hardwoods, here softwood lumber is sorted at the sawmill into factory or shop grades on the basis that these boards can be recut to yield a certain proportion of smaller pieces of specific quality and size. This lumber provides the basic raw material for many secondary manufacturing operations. [Pg.342]

The location of exchangers is the key to maintenance. Usually the back head is kept at a distance of about three meters from the piperack support columns. Access equipment must be able to get in and remove the sheU cover and flange head. Access area must also be provided to handle and remove the sheU cover usually located under the piperack. The tube-pulling or rodding-out area must be kept clear to allow access to the channel end. This space should be at least equal to the tube length and about two meters from the tube sheet location. Tube removal space should be allowed for but is not mandatory if grade-mounted heat exchangers are used and mobile maintenance equipment employed to pick up the entire unit and transfer it to the repair shop. [Pg.78]

Lack of diversity of outlets for example, when the supermarket is the co-op s only customer then the group has been left with a lot of waste products which the supermarket has rejected because their specification demands product excellence and uniformity. It is therefore important to find other outlets for perfectly sound produce that has been graded out by the supermarket packer. Other markets include restaurants, shops, wholesalers and consumer groups. [Pg.140]

Manufacturers of prepolymers will often provide the weight of curative per 100 units of prepolymer. This is based on the midpoint NCO for the grade and the normal index value for the curative. The calculations can readily be carried out using a calculator or spreadsheet. From a practical point of view, a set of shop scales with a discount function has been used to provide the weight required. [Pg.82]

The potential applications of BIONELLE in injection-molded articles (such as cutlery, brushes, etc.), tubular films (composting bag, shopping bag), flexible packaging, food tray, cosmetic bottles, and beverage bottles have been projected. In some of these applications, there is a need to improve the performance of existing grades. [Pg.34]

In November 2005, BASF announced that it was expanding its Ecoflex-brand natural plastic line with Ecovio, a blend of NatureWorks PLA and Ecoflex, which is polyester-based. Ecovio production began in October 2005 at an undisclosed location in Germany. The first Ecovio LBX 8145 grade contains 45% by weight of PLA that is chemically bound to the Ecoflex. BASF said the first application will be in flexible films used for shopping bags. [Pg.91]

Acetic acid is used in the manufacture of a wide variety of products including adhesives, polyester fibres, plastics, paints, resins and solvents. About 40% of the acetic acid made industrially is used in the manufacture of vinyl acetate monomer for the plastics industry other large uses are to make cellulose acetate, a variety of acetate esters that are used as solvents, as well as monochloracetic acid, a pesticide. Acetic acid is also used as a solvent for the oxidation of p-xylene to terephthalic acid, a precursor to the important polyester, polyethylene terephthalate (PET). A minor, but important use is as non-brewed condiment, a vinegar substitute widely used in British fish and chip shops this is made using food-grade industrial acetic acid and is less expensive than fermentation vinegar. [Pg.119]

Phosphine-modified cobalt hydroformylation is only used commercially by Shell. It is tightly coupled to Shell s Higher Olefins Process (SHOP, see Metathesis Polymerization Processes by Homogeneous Catalysis) that produces a C4 through C20 mixture of linear, internal alkenes for hydroformylation to detergent-grade alcohols. [Pg.663]

All that was required to make the high grade hunting knife shown above was a wom-uut 10 in. mill file, 10 cents worth of scrap sole leather from a shoe repair shop, and a piece of scrap brass 1 Va in. in diameter. [Pg.77]

Growing up in a high-consumption society already adds inestimable pressure to kids lives. Clothes consciousness has invaded the grade schools, and popularity is linked with having the best, newest clothes in the currently acceptable styles. Even what they read has been affected. Miss [Nancy] Drew wasn t obsessed with her wardrobe, noted The Wall Street Journal. But today the mystery in teen fiction for girls is what outfit the heroine will wear next. Shopping has become a survival skill and there is certainly no better place to learn it than the mall, where its importance is powerfully reinforced and certainly never questioned. [Pg.574]
