Shin studies

The type of solvent can affect the kinetics, and, as a consequence, the equilibrium is sometimes not reached within a reasonable time. For example, Kim and Shin studied the kinetically controlled synthesis of alitame precursor (Z-Asp(OEt)-D-Ala-NH2), and better results were obtained in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide and 2-methoxyethyl acetate as adjuvants. These solvents promoted product precipitation while maintaining the reaction mixture in a homogeneous state, thus improving the conversion [64]. 

Malonaldehyde (MA) is a major end product of oxidizing or rancid lipids and it accumulates in moist foodstuffs (6). Several MA-protein systems have been studied. Chio and Tappel combined RNAase and MA to demonstrate fluorescence attributed to a conjugated imine formed by crosslinking two e-amino groups with the dialdehyde (7). Shin studied the same reaction and found it to be dependent on pH and reactant concentrations (8). Crawford reported the reaction between MA and bovine plasma albumin (BPA) also to be pH dependent, and of first order kinetics with a maximum rate near pH 4.30. At room temperature 50-60% of the e-amino groups were modified—40% in the first eight hours, the remainder over a period of days (9).

The results of many studies (Perin et al, 2000 Schrezenmeir and de Vrese, 2001 Shin et al, 2000 Gmeiner et al, 2000) point to a synergistic effect of probiotic and prebiotic combinations on the faecal microbiota of experimental animals. This effect was demonstrated by increased total anaerobes, aerobes, lactobacilli and bifidobacteria counts as well as by decreased Clostridia, Enterobacteriaceae and E. coli counts. The combination of probiotics and non-digestible carbohydrates may be a way of stabilisation and/or improvement of the probiotic effect.

In 2008 Shin et al. used lETS and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to characterize the chemical integrity and morphology of rubrene (C40H24) layers after deposition of an Fe top electrode [57]. The lETS spectra were consistent with the known IR- and Raman-active normal modes, which led the authors to conclude there were no chemical reactions with Fe. Cross-sectional TEM images showed continuous rubrene layers between the bottom Co layer and top Fe layer, with no evidence for small particle formation. Similar to the study by Santos et al., they found that the presence of an AI2O3 layer had a profound effect on the tunneling...

Neoplastic transformation of fibroblastic cells has been reported with Chinese hamster lung cells, rat embryo cells, BHK cells, mouse 3T3 cell lines, a mouse ventral prostate cell line, and the mouse C3H/10T1/2 cell line (Heidelberger et al, 1983 Barrett and Ts o, 1978). The Syrian hamster embryo cells and the various mouse cell lines have been employed most often in studies employing fibroblastic cells. Neoplastic and preneoplastic transformation of normal human fibroblasts has also been reported in recent years (DeMars and Jackson, 1977, Freedman and Shin, 1977 Kakunagti, 1978 Milo and DiPaolo, 1978 Namba et al, 1978 Borek, 1980 McCormick et al, 1980 Sutherland et al, 1980 SilinskasetoiL, 1981). 

Hydroacylation of Allenes The use of tert-butyl esters allowed Shin to lactonize allenoates using AuCl3 as a catalyst [48]. This paper also studies the effect of different phosphine ligands used as co-catalysts.
