Setting speed

Tackifiers are used to increase the tackiness and the setting speed of adhesives. They increase tackiness by softening the poly(vinyl acetate) polymer in the wet and the dry adhesive film. Tackifiers are usually rosin or its derivatives or phenoHc resins. Other additives frequently needed for specific apphcation and service conditions are antifoams, biocides, wetting agents, and humectants. [Pg.470]

With years of research and development in the field of static drives, it is now possible to identify and separate the.se two parameters (f, and /, ) and vary them individually, as in a d.c. machine, to achieve extremely accurate speed control, even slightly better than in d.c. machines. In d.c. machines the armature current and the field strength arc also varied independently. A.C. machines can now be used to provide very precise speed control, as accurate as 0.001% of the set speed, with closed-loop feedback controls. This technique of speed control is termed I ield-oriented control (FOC) and is discussed below. [Pg.106]

Tacho generator (TG) - This is an analogue voltage feedback device and can provide a speed input to the inverter control circuit. It provides only a low level of speed regulation, typically x 0.4% of the set speed. [Pg.111]

For many bonding applications a variety of adhesives can perform adequately. Hot melt adhesives are normally chosen where process speed is critical. Since hot melts have no carrier vehicle (solvent or water), and thicken rapidly as they cool, they are limited in their ability to (1) penetrate low porosity substrates or wet out very rough surfaces (2) cut through or imbibe surface contaminants and (3) wet out high thermal conductivity substrates (e.g. metals). Nonetheless, hot melts are increasingly the adhesive of choice in automated production environments because of their fast set speed. [Pg.711]

In most adhesives, tackifier is the ingredient present in the highest proportion. Tackifying resins are primarily used to reduce adhesive viscosity and adjust the 7g of the adhesive s amorphous matrix phase. Through their effects on the other ingredients and the overall system they can also dramatically affect wet out, hot tack, open time, set speed, and heat resistance. [Pg.718]

Setting speed is primarily dependent on the choice of wax and its compatibility in the system. Waxes with a higher (recrystallization temperature) and with marginal compatibility in the system will set quicker. [Pg.745]

Plasticizers soften the film and increase the adhesion and the setting speed. The most common are phthalates, adipates and benzoates. The amount added can be in a broad range of 10-50%. They affect the swelling and softening of the PVAc emulsion particles, ensure film formation at room temperature, and the tack of the still wet adhesive. They also provide improved moisture resistance of the bond. Disadvantages are the lower resistance of the bond line against heat, possible migration of the plasticizers and enhanced cold flow. [Pg.1078]

Dissolve menthol in peppermint oil at 25°C by slow stirring in another mixing vessel. Continue stirring until the solution becomes clear. Transfer the clean menthol solution (step 5) into step 4 while stirring at the set speed. Continue stirring for 1 hour. [Pg.187]

It is really just like cruise control on your car. You select the speed you want to drive at. If the car is going slower than the speed you selected, or set speed, the gas pedal is depressed, to bring the car up to your selected set speed. The governor speed-control valve is just like the gas pedal. [Pg.205]

The high-velocity steam strikes the buckets around the rim of the turbine wheel shown in Fig. 17.1. Actually, these so-called buckets resemble blades or vanes. I imagine the term bucket is a carryover from the days of the water wheel. The velocity of the steam is now transferred to the spinning turbine wheel. If the turbine is running below its set speed, the speed controller causes the governor speed-control valve to open. [Pg.205]

In the File menu, select and open New File. This brings up the window where the run parameters can be specified. Select the 4 hole in the rotor option. Set Speed to 3000 rpm and Temperature to the desired experimental temperature (25 °C in our experiments). [Pg.222]

These adhesives have found their way into several niche markets where their advantages, such as fast setting speed, are highly valued. They have not seen application in the more ordinary markets because of their materials and equipment cost. However, it is expected that these epoxy adhesive systems will grow at a faster annual rate than the average market as their advantages become more widely known. [Pg.255]

The centrifuge was rotated at predetermined speeds yielding different gravitational forces. A set speed was maintained throughout the experiment. At daily intervals, the centrifuge was stopped, and a vessel was removed from the oven. The vessel was replaced with a vessel of similar weight (loaded with water), then the crystallization was continued. [Pg.235]

Some mortars are heat sensitive. The speed of set of furan mortars in particular, is much accelerated by heat, so that "open time" can be reduced to 10 minutes at 85° to 90°F. The effects of temperature on setting speeds of other resins are less extreme, but the contractor will have more time to use up his mix at a 60° to 70°F material temperature. Phenolic mortars must be stored prior to use at temperatures of 60°F or lower. If they are left in areas where they may be overheated, they can be ruined in a short time or so badly affected as to be unusable. There is a case on record of phenolic mortars being delivered to a site in Texas late on Friday, and left on the loading dock, resulting in materials which were totally unusable by 7 A.M. on Monday morning when the construction crew arrived. On the other hand, no serious damage will result if the components of resin mortars are subjected to temperatures below freezing. [Pg.364]

Northwest Utah is the site of the Bonneville Salt Flats—an area covered with a hard, flat, salt crust that formed in ancient times. Located near F80, the salt flats cover 46 square miles (119 square kilometers) and are mainly comprised of sodium chloride (common table salt). The flat landscape, which is home to the Bonneville Speedway, has helped many auto racers set speed records for nearly 100 years. IMAGE COPYRIGHT 2009, MDD. Adhesives with short cure time or setting speed (cyanoacrylate, reactive adhesives with short pot lives, hot-melt adhesives) are only suitable to a limited extent for more extensive bonded joints (dm2/m2), since the application time may exceed the cure time. The bondable surface depends on the... [Pg.103]

The minimum function of any ACC is the normal cruise-control function, namely constant speed control at a speed set by the driver (set-speed control). It occurs when no preceding vehicle requires a slower speed. It thus is also used when a preceding vehicle is driving faster than the ACC vehicle. If the ACC car is approaching a slower-travelling vehicle, the car decelerates (brake interference in-... [Pg.379]

This is a separation done in a tube whose liquid portion is the same density from top to bottom. Figure 39-20 is a series of diagrams to illustrate the concept. It consists of a series of centrifugations at increasing, but set, speeds. [Pg.466]
