Separators actions

One or more of the following mechanisms are employed in the separating action of the wet scrubbers. 

Self-induced spray wet collectors This is the most common type, and relies on its separating action by the induced air from the fan pulling the contaminated air through a curtain of water. It is simple in operation with no pumps or moving parts except for the fan, which is set on the clean side of the collector. The scrubbing action is dependent on the pressure drop across the collector. When set, this is constant and is determined by the water level within the collector. The removal of sludge is either by automatic ejection or manual drag-out.

The filters used for gas cleaning separate the solid particles by a combination of impingement and filtration the pore sizes in the filter media used are too large simply to filter out the particles. The separating action relies on the precoating of the filter medium by the first particles separated which are separated by impingement on the filter medium fibres. Woven or felted cloths of cotton and various synthetic fibres are commonly used as the filter media. Glass-fibre mats and paper filter elements are also used.

Segregation is the unwanted separation of differing components of the blend. This separation action is often referred to as a segregation mechanism. A second action is required for segregation to manifest itself, specifically, the flow from the blender to the creation of the dose. As material flows, the segregated zones may be reclaimed in such a way as to be effectively reblended or these zones may be reclaimed one at a time, exacerbating segregation.

These measures provide some crude insight into the directions and magnitudes of influence of the experimental variables on yv (Clearly, by these measures jc, = 2.50 seems preferable to xx = 1.00, and the run time variable x4 seems to have little impact on yield.) But they also provide strong evidence that the nature of the dependence of yield on the experimental factors is too complicated to be described by the action of the factors individually. For example, if it were the case that the separate actions of the experimental factors were adequate to describe system behavior, then standard statistical theory and the data indicate that the mean response for the xx = 1.00, x2 = 1.0, x3 = 1.00, and x4 = 2.0 set of conditions would be around...

Although the spiral concentrator is mechanically a very simple piece of equipment, the separating action taking place is complex. It involves centrifugal force, friction against the spiral surface, gravity, and the drag of the water.

The physical meaning of this rule is that the total force acting on a body at any instant is the sum of every separate action.
