Broadly speaking, the most important factors in the safe use of economic poisons are adequate information and appropriate care by all persons having any contact whatsoever with the poisons. Safety may be promoted but not ensured by voluntary control, such as the self-discipline of industry by legal control, such as regulation of sale, labeling, and distribution and by economic control, such as the refusal of food processors to buy from farmers or dealers food containing excessive residues for which no adequate method of decontamination is known. 

Good laboratory practice (or good scientific practice) is the term used to describe how chemists, and indeed other scientists, should go about their day-to-day work. It covers a variety of characteristics, such as tidiness, cleanliness, care, thoughtfulness, safety, organization and self-discipline. A chemist who has these qualities and uses them is more likely to get the correct results, and get them first time, than someone who does not have them. 

For the purpose of self-discipline, there is a mechanism under which IFPMA deals with complaints of alleged breaches of the Code. When a complaint is received by the IFPMA Secretariat, a summary is required to be sent to the company that is the subject of the complaint, the member association where that company has its headquarters, and the member association (if any) of the country in which the alleged breach has occurred. The relevant member associations are asked to consult the company and report back to IFPMA the results of their investigation of the case. Many interviewers, especially those who have served in the military themselves, have a great respect for applicants who have served in the military and have been honorably discharged. The military is known for teaching skills like self-discipline and leadership, which all employers look for in applicants. 

The order in which these and other science-oriented activities are performed are wholly up to the scientist, as illustrated by the wheel of scientific inquiry in Figure 1.5. No cookbooks. No algorithms of logic. Just equipment, a blank lab notebook, some self-discipline, and a healthy dose of creative curiosity. This is the scientific spirit. 

People are not taught how to use freedom wisely. Nobody tells you it must be tempered with self-discipline. To be enjoyed, freedom must be respected and channeled. 

Freedom is beautiful It s also a trap. If you re not careful, freedom will swallow you like quicksand. It s important not to lose control. You make the most of freedom only with self-discipline. It is not an open door to unlimited pleasure, but an opportunity to use time wisely. 

You should not anticipate dramatic changes after retirement. Most people retain the same way of viewing the world they developed earlier. If you have a positive outlook on life, retirement should be easier for you. The pattern is already set. Naturally, there will be a challenge, but it will be easier for you than for a pessimistic person. This doesn t mean attitude is impossible to change. Sometimes people with a negative outlook earlier in life come into their own after retirement. They find a way to make up for things they didn t accomplish earlier. But it isn t easy. While the opportunity is present, it takes determination and self-discipline to change. 

It is always a temptation to discard a diet when eating out. After all, there should be exceptions to everything, especially diets. Eating out is fun, especially if it doesn t happen often. But some folks overdo it to the point where they seriously cripple their diets and damage themselves needlessly. Some can overdo it at potluck dinners. Others lose all resistance in cafeterias. Those who eat out often may be unable to diet because it takes more self discipline than they can muster. 

Other factors add to the problem. Starchy foods on menus are often less expensive. Specials are often tempting, but may not fit the diet. And a cocktail ahead of time can cause one to make food choices with wild abandon. Cafeterias have the advantage of offering a wide selection, which permits a person to adhere to his or her diet. But it is essential to have a dose of self discipline as an appetizer while standing in fine. 

Highly motivated. They have a strong desire to overcome problems and to achieve a goal, are self-disciplined, focused and flexible thinkers. 

The patient described in the case report is a textbook example of this. His history suggests the presence of chronic malabsorption since birth and a self-discipline resulting in alleviation of gastrointestinal symptoms before his move... 

Validation practitioners must have a measure of tenacity and self-discipline so that they stay the course, progressing work through to completion without constant snpervision. This is not to say that they shonld be discouraged from seeking advice, but rather that they should have sufficient judgment and vahdation knowledge to make some basic decisions themselves.

Therefore the laboratory supervisor will decide on such matters as to whether the ability, conduct and behaviour of persons within the laboratory is conducive to the maintenance of a safe environment there. Self discipline is expected, but if it is not evident then discipline has to be imposed. 

Clearly established goals, strong self-discipline, and an extremely supportive family and employer are essential attributes of successful nontraditional students. Although schools/colleges have expended significant efforts to design and implement user-friendly programs to allow fulltime practitioners to return to school, prospective candidates must approach this process with the same intensity... 

Most personal errors can be minimized by care and self-discipline. It is a good habit to check instrument readings, notebook entries, and calculations systematically. Errors due to limitations of the experimenter can usually be avoided by carefully choosing the analytical method. 

Diet doesn t stand all by itself as the path to good health. We all need exercise, fresh air, sunshine, enough sleep, recreation, and sufficient self-discipline to stop and smell the roses now and then. Of all the varied professions in the healing arts, including aU the alternative healing arts, none of them can heal damaged tissue without nutrition. Certainly drugs can t build new tissue. Nor can polarity therapy, acupuncture, or herbs. 

Eternal peace can t be assured through technical means. A husband and wife get along because of their spirit and self-discipline, not because you lock up every rod and poker. StiU, this diflerence... 

Based on this and other information, the belief that addiction is a self-induced disease or a constitutional weakness has been dismissed by clinicians in the addiction treatment field. Willpower and self-discipline cannot control genetics or environment. Since most patients will consume alcohol at some point in their lives, and over half drink alcohol regularly, the determination of who becomes alcoholic must be multifactorial. 

The differences between the easy and the hard ways must be similar to the situation in which one man climbs the [mountain] and another takes the ski-lift. The view from the top is the same for both. The mountain climber has sweated and striven against the dangers. His view must be different from the ski-lift rider s because it incorporates the struggle and the trimnph. Ski-lift transcendence can approach that of the mountain climber s only if the prior life preparation has also been one of training and self-discipline, Sidney Cohen 1964.
