The journal Mass Spectrometry Reviews is probably the best single source of information for both the novice and experienced user. The reviews selected below are intended to illustrate the diversity of present-day mass spectrometry. [Pg.259]

As cyanide ions operate as ambident nucleophiles, alkylation reactions may generate isonitriles as well as nitriles (equation 2). A whole range of parameters is responsible for the outcome of reactions of this type and their particular role together with special counter influences is not easily evaluated. There is a large and growing number of papers on this topic, but one can concentrate here on a few selected review articles.Suffice it to say that Komblum s seminal article s from 1955 is still of special importance in this field. Pearson s principle of soft and hard acids and bases (HSAB) proved to be particularly helpful in the interpretation of experimental results. ... [Pg.226]

Because this is an extensive research area, what follows is a brief discussion of the field, with numerous references to selected review articles and key concepts. No attempt is made to be exhaustive or comprehensive. [Pg.665]

Metallocenes, especially zirconocenes but also titanocenes, hafnocenes, and other transition metal complexes treated with MAO are highly active for the polymerization of olefins, diolefins, and styrene. The polymerization activity, which is up to 100 times higher than for classical Ziegler catalysts, as well as the possibility to easily tailor the microstructure of the polymer chain and to obtain polymers with special properties have motivated research groups worldwide to produce thousands of patents and publications in the last 20 years. An overview can be found in selected review articles and books [55-68]. A metallocene/MAO catalyst containing 1 g zirconium produced 40 x 10 g polyethylene in 1 h at 95°C and 8 bar ethene pressure (Table 1). [Pg.9]

In recent years, advances in experimental capabilities have fueled a great deal of activity in the study of the electrified solid-liquid interface. This has been the subject of a recent workshop and review article [145] discussing structural characterization, interfacial dynamics and electrode materials. The field of surface chemistry has also received significant attention due to many surface-sensitive means to interrogate the molecular processes occurring at the electrode surface. Reviews by Hubbard [146, 147] and others [148] detail the progress. In this and the following section, we present only a brief summary of selected aspects of this field. [Pg.202]

Excellent books and review articles covering LB and SA films have appeared recently. The following covers the basics and some selected topics are presented as examples. For a more comprehensive overview and more details on specific topics the reader is referred to the cited literature. [Pg.2609]

Hydrolyses by heterogeneous systems are also important for their industrial utility and for obtaining selectivity. McGarvey and Kunin136 published a review article of the relevant earlier work up to 1954. We quote here mainly the work published since then. [Pg.168]

The morphology of polymer crystals has been studied extensively by many experimentalists, and an enormous variety and richness has been unveiled (see e.g. Ref. [5]). It is beyond the scope of this review to lay out the evidence in detail. We can only concentrate on some selected points and refer the interested reader to the literature, in particular the review articles by Keller [6], Bassett [7], Dosiere [8] and most recently Phillips [9],... [Pg.226]

The aim of this review article is to discuss the type of information which can be obtained concerning orientation in polymers by spectroscopic methods and to select examples which illustrate key problems in the area of polymer physics. [Pg.81]

The editors feel that the topics selected for these two volums on Characterization are new so as to qualify for this series, sufficently mature so as to warrant a review article, and of timely interest to the readers. The editors are grateful to the authors for their willing collaboration and to the publisher for a speedy and careful production. [Pg.226]

The syntheses and spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization of the rhodium and iridium porphyrin complexes (Por)IVI(R) and (Por)M(R)(L) have been summarized in three review articles. The classical syntheses involve Rh(Por)X with RLi or RMgBr, and [Rh(Por) with RX. In addition, reactions of the rhodium and iridium dimers have led to a wide variety of rhodium a-bonded complexes. For example, Rh(OEP)]2 reacts with benzyl bromide to give benzyl rhodium complexes, and with monosubstituted alkenes and alkynes to give a-alkyl and fT-vinyl products, respectively. More recent synthetic methods are summarized below. Although the development of iridium porphyrin chemistry has lagged behind that of rhodium, there have been few surprises and reactions of [IrfPorih and lr(Por)H parallel those of the rhodium congeners quite closely.Selected structural data for rr-bonded rhodium and iridium porphyrin complexes are collected in Table VI, and several examples are shown in Fig. 7. ... [Pg.295]

A CD-ROM is attached containing a teaching course of Mossbauer spectroscopy (ca. 300 ppt frames), a selection of examples of applications of Mossbauer spectroscopy in various fields (ca. 500 ppt frames), review articles on computation and interpretation of Mossbauer parameters using modem quantum-mechanical methods, list of properties of isotopes relevant to Mossbauer spectroscopy, appendices refering to book chapters, and the first edition of this book which appeared in 1978. In subsequent printmns files are available via springer.extra.com (see imprint page). [Pg.575]
