Some scientific studies indicate that the gam in performance obtained through the use of anabolic steroids is small This may be a case though in which the anecdotal evidence of the athletes may be closer to the mark than the scientific studies The scientific studies are done under ethical conditions in which patients are treated with prescription level doses of steroids A 240 pound offensive tackle ( too small by todays standards) may take several ana bolic steroids at a time at 10-20 times their pre scribed doses in order to weigh the 280 pounds he (or his coach) feels is necessary The price athletes pay for gams in size and strength can be enormous This price includes emotional costs (friendships lost because of heightened aggressiveness) sterility testicular atro phy (the testes cease to function once the body starts to obtain a sufficient supply of testosterone like steroids from outside) and increased risk of prema ture death from liver cancer or heart disease... [Pg.1099]

Team size is important. Less than three contributing members, excluding tbe secretaiy and leader, will probably reduce team effectiveness. A team size of five to eight, including tbe leader and scribe, is probably optimum. [Pg.2273]

Review Documentation The project review team leader has the ultimate responsibility for documenting the results of the project review. This responsibility may be delegated to a team scribe or secretary to record trie review minutes and issue a summary report with listed action items. The action items could address exceptions to company or industiy standards and government regulations, review team recommendations based on experience and knowledge, and further issues for study that could not be resolved during the review session. [Pg.2285]

Two members selected from the team act in supportive roles during the PHA. These roles are the leader and the scribe. A team leader is always needed for a PHA and should double as the scribe only for extremely simple hazard evaluations. For more complex analyses or the HAZOP study method, a separate person should always be assigned to scribe. [Pg.90]

The scribe is responsible for accurately recording the hazards and recommendations as the team identifies them. The individual... [Pg.90]

For new rotors, where the elements have not yet been put on the rotor, other techniques can be used. First, the components can be individually balanced on a precision mandrel. Precision means that the runout is a few tenths of a mil (.001 inch). The runout high spot should be scribed on the mandrel. The new component now can be reasonably well-balanced. As the component is removed from the mandrel, the mandrel mark should be transferred to the component. When all the components are completed, the shaft is checked for runout. The high spot should be marked. As the components are stacked onto the shaft, the marks on the shaft are aligned with those transferred to the component. This works well with keyless rotors (no key between shaft and component). Experience has shown ihat in most cases with keyless rotors when the stacked rotor is put in the balance machine and checked, the residual unbalance is within the acceptable tolerance. If not, the rotor must be unstacked and the problem located. It must be remembered, however, if the components were properly balanced and the rotor comes out with unbalance, there must be a proh-... [Pg.375]

Janarthanan et al. [67] have employed roughness on a micron scale to enhance the adhesion between two immiscible polymers, polycarbonate and styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, SAN. The HAZOP team consisted of a HAZOP leader, scribe, process engineer, senior operator, and afety engineer. Previously, the HAZOP leader collected information on the process design (e.g P lDs, operating procedures, emergency procedures and incident reports) for distribution to each team men The leader sectioned the process and identified process deviations prior to the HAZOP. [Pg.441]

The HAZOP took 3 calendar months to complete. However, preliminaty recommendations tor system safety improvements were available after the second HAZOP meeting. The HAZOP required about 2 staff-months of effort. In addition, the HAZOP leader and scribe spent another 3. staff-months in preparation and documentation. [Pg.441]

For processes that generate particles (dust, mists, fumes, etc.) there is no general procedure to calculate the contaminant s velocity and flow rate. Data and figures exist for some processes de.scribing the contaminant generation process however, for dust-generating processes Method B or C is often used. [Pg.832]

In the cycle calculations de.scribed below [2], film cooling was as.sumed. Further, as described in Appendix A, various a.s.sumptions were made for the critical constants, as follows. The constant C in Eq. (5.13) was taken as 0.045, and within W, the cooling efficiency tJcooi as 0.7 and the film cooling effectiveness ep as 0.4. All were assumed to be constant over the range of cooling flows considered. [Pg.73]

A second type of CRGT plant involving modification of the fuel before combustion (Cycle B3) is shown in Fig. 8.14. Now some part of the exhaust from the turbine (which contains water vapour) is recirculated to the reformer where the fuel is modified. Thus this FG/TCR cycle has an element of the semi-closed cycle plus modification of the combustion process. The chemical process involved in this cycle has been described in Section 8.5.4, but there is now no simple comparison that can be made between the FG/ TCR cycle and the basic STIG cycle, as de.scribed in Section 8.6.2.1. [Pg.150]
