Sample target product profile

Drug discovery teams in industry typically work toward a desired target product profile (TPP). The TPP states in simple terms the desired mechanism of action, therapeutic benefit, and how it will be used. A sample TPP for an SMA therapeutic might be the following ... 

Each sample was mixed with the ionic liquid matrix (2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid/pyridine) containing C-labelled glucose as internal standard and spotted on the target. MALDI-MS analysis generated reaction profiles by the simultaneous determination of product and substrate concentrations for each enzyme variant. The reaction profiles could be used to sort the enzyme variants into five different classes.

As a first step, test other pure chemicals, such as compounds from the same chemical class and structurally related compounds, chemicals that might have been administered to the commodity or its environment during production and potential (likely) environmental contaminants. Next, test for interference from co-extractives from target matrices by testing representative matrices collected from various sources that reflect the expected profile of sample submissions. Testing of material from a single source is not sufficient. Check also for interference from known metabolites and degradation products.
