Safety programs status

As the basis for decisions about the first dosing in humans, the preclinical safety program needs to mimic the intended clinical regimen. Although these studies are commonly conducted in normal healthy animals, they may also require development and use of an animal model that mimics the health status or condition if it is deemed to possibly sensitize the subject to treatment. For example, we have conducted studies evaluating the safety of recombinant human Factor XIII in an animal model of extracorporeal blood circulation [6] and the safety of recombinant human thrombin in an animal model of hepatic resection [7]. [Pg.973]

The application of only OSHA regulations in the workplace rarely results in an accident and injury status of zero. OSHA and its regulations (or fear of OSHA) are not enough to have a successful safety program. OSHA regulations are essential but must be combined with other safety practices, such as ... [Pg.246]

There is no question that the safety and audit system molded, shaped and gnided Midas to achieve VPP status and be identified as a corporation with a world-class safety program. [Pg.412]

Analytical trees can be used in a variety of ways in the system safety effort. The most common application of analytical trees in current system safety programs is probably the use of fault trees for fault tree analysis (FTA). However, analytical trees can also be used as planning tools, project description documents, status charts, and feeder documents for several hazard analysis techniques (including fault tree analysis). Analytical trees can be multipurpose, life cycle documents and represent one of the most useful tools available to managers, engineers, and safety professionals. [Pg.105]

For a safety program to be effective, the safety climate needs to be supportive of the program. The safety climate includes management, workers, the physical equipment in the workplace, and the interfaces between the people and the environment. Perception surveys can be used to assess the status of the safety climate in the workplace. Key areas that perception surveys can assess include management support for safety and employees attitudes and beliefs about safety. Environmental conditions and interfaces between equipment and workers can be assessed using various system safety techniques. Examples of system safety techniques include root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis. [Pg.139]

Performance measures can be assessed using safety metrics for determining the status of a safety program. [Pg.180]

Measuring safety program outcomes (e.g., on health status, injury rates) 36... [Pg.66]

Over the course of our experience, we have seen numerous well-written safety programs that after a brief time simply evaporated and could not even be found in an organization. The day to day pressures and priorities had allowed safety to be degraded to a secondary status. [Pg.19]

Indeed, the time has come to challenge the status quo and think differently about WHY safety is important. I have yet to meet someone who goes to work expecting to get hurt. So why do we advertise our safety programs on the platform of preventing injuries, when we should be promoting safety in the context of the employees WHY ... [Pg.18]

As previously noted, cility-specific approaches tend not to succeed where the overall current status of PSM is poor. Local staff will not have the necessary knowledge or experience of safety management to develop and implement a program without considerable outside assistance. Even if you have identified significant variations, if your team decides that overail PSM performance is low you should consider a companywide strategy rather than a facility-specific approach. [Pg.98]

The Government of India has established the National GLP Compliance Monitoring Authority (India GLP), adopting the OECD quality system of the principles of GLP, for inspection, monitoring, and accreditation of test facilities in India for conducting nonclinical and environmental safety studies. Currently, India enjoys the full member status of OECD for GLP. India is a member of the OECD Test Guidelines program. [Pg.15]

The unit is equipped with devices such as remote switches to alleviate problems such as missing the pickup of a test tube or pipette tip. In a sequence of events, the robot would pick up a test tube and move to a location that has a remote switch. It would then press down the switch which would send a response to the controller. The Zymate program and the response from the switch location would indicate whether the robot had picked up the test tube. If the response was positive it would continue with the assay. If negative, it would take other actions that might be programmed into the system. These actions might include another attempt at picking up the test tube or a system shutdown. These actions thus allow safety checks on system operation or status. [Pg.152]
