Process Safety Management - The application of management principles, methods, and practices to prevent and control accidental releases of process chemicals or energy. 

Process Safety Management— A program or activity that involves the application of management principles and analytical techniques to ensure process safety in chemical facilities. The focus is on preventing major accidents rather than dealing with classic worker health and safety issues. 

The safety culture action principle, behavior based attitudes theory and accident triangle principles work together to promote the change of zero accidents concept to zero accidents objective from three indispensable aspects of idea , action and methods , as is shown in Figure 4. The managanent principles that management team members use in daily supervision of production, quality control, or any other operation are the same when managing safety in the workplace. In production, the supervisor plans, organizes, directs, and controls operations to produce a product, while in safety and loss prevention, the supervisor plans, organizes, directs, and controls the safety and loss prevention function in the workplace. System Safety A subdiscipline of systems engineering that applies scientific, engineering, and management principles to ensure adequate safety, the timely identification of hazard risk, and initiation of actions to prevent or control those hazards throughout the life cycle and within the constraints of operational effectiveness, time, and cost (Stephenson 1991). The use of system engineering principles to provide a specified level of safety given the trade-offs involving cost, time, and the operations involved.
