Safety management plans and procedures

Safety management plans and procedures should specify the activities that need to be conducted in order to execute the SMS policy and principles. Typical latent failures in management include inadequate procedures, poor scheduling and allocation of resources, and neglect of recognised problems. Typically, Logica staff would work on-site under direct chent supervision and management. They would work to the client s Terms of Reference, Work Package Descriptions, Safety Management Plan and local procedures. 

During program and project planning, a system safety plan, standards, and project development safety control structure need to be designed including policies, procedures, the safety management and control structure, and communication channels. More about safety management plans can be found in chapters 12 and 13. 

The audit identifies weaknesses in the health and safety management plan or system. Little is achieved unless a procedure is estabhshed to ensure prompt follow-up on deficiencies. This procedure should include provision for target dates for remedial action and checks to confirm completion.

This document was based on the existing SMP template for development projects, and was modified to use OS terminology and OS-speeifie doeumentation that requires review and approval (e.g. CLl and OLA doeuments). 

Within the oil and gas industry in Norway, major companies have largely standardized the work processes on board in an effort to control and measure operations.
