The SAE carries on technical standardization work for the motor vehicle, aircraft, airline, space vehicles, farm tractor, earth moving, and roadbuilding machinery, and other manufacturing industries using internal combustion engines. The standards of the SAE are published annually in the SAE Handbook, except for the standards of the aerospace industry, which are published in looseleaf form as Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS).

SAE Standards. Warrendale, PA Society of Automotive Engineers. SAE has produced over 8,300 standards, primarily in two broad areas aerospace and ground vehicle. Aerospace content is, in turn, divided primarily between Aerospace Materials Specifications and Aerospace Standards. Ground vehicle standards are primarily known as J-Reports, with most published annually in the SAE Handbook. Both aerospace and ground vehicle standards are available in print, on CD-ROM, or online.
