Rust removal

Entrostungsmittel, n. rust remover, entroten, v.t. free from red color, entrilcheln, v.t. deodorize. [Pg.132]

First comes the pretreatment stage. After rust removal and alkaline degreasing, a zinc phosphate formulated pretreatment (see Section 15.2) is applied by dip or spray-dip. Crystalline iron-rich zinc phosphate forms on the metal surface at a coating weight of 0.5-4.5 g/m. ... [Pg.626]

C20-0077. Several commercial rust removers contain the bidentate ligand oxalate, (O2 CC02) Explain how these household products remove rast. Include a structural drawing of the species that forms. [Pg.1492]

Read the labels before mixing household cleansers. Many toilet-bowl cleaners contain acidic solutions, as do some drain cleaners, rust removers, and, of course, vinegar. Never mix bleach with these products. You could sustain permanent lung damage. [Pg.94]

Used industrially for etching glass, as an antiseptic and disinfectant, as a leather bleach, in the production of tin plate, for rust removal, as a welding flux, as a neutralizer in laundry rinsing operations, and as a cleaner for stone and brick building faces. Used to preserve zoological and anatomical specimens. [Pg.54]

Strong acids, bases, or oxidizers can cause permanent eye damage, skin bums, and, if swallowed, gastrointestinal damage. Examples of corrosive products include alkaline drain cleaners and oven cleaners, acid-based toilet bowl cleaners and rust removers, concentrated disinfectants, and some concentrated pesticides, especially fungicides. [Pg.230]

Phosphoric acid is used as an intermediate in the production of animal feed supplements, water treatment chemicals, metal surface treatments, etching agent, and personal care products such as toothpaste. It is used as a catalyst in the petroleum and polymer industry. Phosphoric acid is used in food as a preservative, an acidulant, and flavor enhancer it acidifies carbonated drinks such as Coca Cola and Pepsi, giving them a tangy flavor. Phosphoric acid is used as a rust remover and metal cleaner. Naval Jelly is approximately 25% phosphoric acid. Other uses for phosphoric acid include opacity control in glass production, textile dyeing, rubber latex coagulation, and dental cements. [Pg.220]

Gluconates and glucoheptonates are essential components of many alkaline rust removers and cleaners, paint strippers, and etchants. They frequently cause complexation of dissolved heavy metals such as copper, nickel, and zinc. Conventional sodium hydroxide treatment does not result in sufficient precipitation of these complexed metals to meet EPA standards. In tests performed by Srinivasan (1983), the use of lime or calcium hydroxide proved far better. In particular, lime treatment resulted in more metal removal, better flocculation and faster sludge settling, and could also be used in conjunction with sodium hydroxide treatment. [Pg.68]

Thiosalicylic acid has been used as an anthelmintic, bactericide, and fungicide. It has also been used as a rust remover, a corrosion inhibitor for steel, and a polymerization inhibitor. In photography, it has application in print-out emulsions and as an activator for photographic emulsions,... [Pg.1456]
