Rips complex

Definition 9.12. Let M he a metric space, and assume that we are given a set S of points in M and a nonnegative real number t. The Rips complex Rt S) is the abstract simplicial complex whose set of vertices is S, and a C S is a simplex if and only if the distance between any two points in a does not exceed t. [Pg.135]

Sometimes the complex Rt S) is called Vietoris-Rips complex. A possible variation on the Rips complex is to take as simplices those sets of vertices that are contained in a closed ball with radius t. [Pg.135]

The minimal nonsimplices in Rips complexes are pairs of vertices at a distance exceeding the parameter t, whereas the alpha complexes and the witness complexes do not seem to benefit from the dual presentation. [Pg.138]

Uranium ores are leached with dilute sulfuric acid or an alkaline carbonate [3812-32-6] solution. Hexavalent uranium forms anionic complexes, such as uranyl sulfate [56959-61-6], U02(S0 3, which are more selectively adsorbed by strong base anion exchangers than are other anions in the leach Hquors. Sulfate complexes are eluted with an acidified NaCl or ammonium nitrate [6484-52-2], NH NO, solution. Carbonate complexes are eluted with a neutral brine solution. Uranium is precipitated from the eluent and shipped to other locations for enrichment. Columnar recovery systems were popular in South Africa and Canada. Continuous resin-in-pulp (RIP) systems gained popularity in the United States since they eliminated a difficult and cosdy ore particle/leach hquor separation step. [Pg.387]

Due to the complex structure of the initiation complex it remains imclear which interactions are responsible for the first mechanism. The coupling between the transactivat-ing domain and the initiation complex can be direct or indirect. There is evidence which indicates that proteins with co-activator function mediate the interaction between HRE-bound receptors and the transcription initiation apparatus. One such protein is RIP-140, which mediates the transcription activation of the estrogen receptor. The AF2 domain can also directly contact the transcriptional apparatus. One component of the RNA polymerase II holoenzyme, the SUGl protein, has been identified as a binding partner for the AF2 domain. The SUGl protein has the function of a co-acti-vator in transcription initiation and is considered a mediator (see 1.4.3.2). [Pg.165]

In the field, it is critical to assess the vesicularity profile as well as size distribution as a function of stratigraphic position within the flow so that the expected profile can be identified. If the expected profile is observed, it can be reliably inferred whether the final, observed flow thickness was the same as that which controlled the modal size of the bubble distribution at the base of the flow (up to about 10 cm up from the bottom). This is the key to determining that there were no post-emplacement complications in flow thickness or other processes within the flow that would confound the analysis for paleoelevation. In addition, extensive lensing, rip-up clasts, or other complexities in the profile of a flow should disqualify it from paleoelevation analysis. [Pg.201]

Here we will confine ourselves mainly to the incoherent (rate) description of spin conversion, which provides the simplest way to account for spin-forbidden recombination of RIPs in complex photochemical reactions. Since ks from Eq. (3.557) depends on H through co-(H), the charge separation yield is also affected by the magnetic field. Therefore, the ratio... [Pg.305]

There are two parallel channels of energy quenching by either contact formation of exciplex with subsequent dissociation to RIP [Eq. (3.604), scheme I] or by remote formation of RIP with subsequent association (transformation) to exciplex [Eq. (3.604), scheme II]. The last one was considered first by means of unified theory [29], which was extended later to account for both schemes together [30]. Since the results were comprehensively reviewed in Chapter IX of Ref. 32, there is no need to do the same here. It should only be noted that the theory of scheme I has been generalized to account exciplex formation, not only by encounters of excited reactants but also by a straightforward light excitation of existing complexes of the same particles [31]. [Pg.323]

On October 23, 1989, at approximately 1300, an explosion and fire ripped through the Phillips 66 Company s Houston Chemical Complex in Pasadena, Texas. At the site, 23 workers were killed, and more than 130 were injured. Property damage was nearly 750 million. Business interruption cost is not available but is probably a very large figure. [Pg.138]

More complex p-apparatus may consist of two (or even more) mechanically separated but pneumatically interconnected enclosures with electrical links. In [31], a pressurized X-ray diagnostic unit has been described for conveyor belt rip detection in German coal mines. The complete apparatus contains three p-enclosures ... [Pg.149]

A further subset of lectins is comprised of those lectins associated with type 2 RIP lectin-PAG complexes (see Chapter 9). The lectin moiety targets the toxic lectin-PAG complex to the plasma membrane, thus permitting PAG entry and target cell death through ribosome inactivation and inhibition of protein synthesis (see Chapter 9). [Pg.489]

TRADD-N interacts with TRAF2 at the upper rim of the mushroom cap and adds a wing-like structure to the mushroom. The carboxyl terminus of TRADD-N projects up to the membrane-proximal direction of the complex, indicating the possible location of the carboxyl terminal death domain of TRADD. In this orientation, TRADD can be recruited to TNF-R1 via its death domain and forms the central platform for recruiting other signaling molecules such as FADD, RIP and TRAF2 (Fig. 9D). [Pg.258]

When TRAF2 and RlPl bind to the complex, two sequential pathways are activated the NFkB pathway and the activated caspase-8 pathway. In the first step of the NFkB pathway, TNF activates the IxBa pathway in a process that depends on the degradation of the inhibitor IkB by the proteasome. The Ikk complex (IkB kinase) mediates the phosphorylation of the inhibitor IkB. The Ikk complex is formed by two related IkB kinases, iKBa and kBfl, and NFkB essential modulator (NEMO), a regulatory protein also known as kBy. The roles of TRAF2 and RIP in the Ikk complex are recmitment and stabilization, respeetively (Devin et al., 2003). [Pg.24]

Ru -moiety described by a magnetic field independent relaxation time ( s) was also important for their MFEs. They carried out numerical simulation of the observed AR E) values with Eq. (12-39), where fe, and bet were only treated as empirical parameters. We can see from Fig. 12-13 that the simulated curves can well reproduce the observed AR B) values. The parameters determined with this method for the four complexes are listed in Table 12-6. It is noteworthy from this table that the reaction processes described by Reactions (12-34a) - (12-34e) occur in ps-time region. Although such ps-processes of the RIPs in fluid solutions can not be measured directly by ps-laser photolysis techniques due to diffusion-controlled formation of the RIPs, it is a great experimental challenge to observe directly the MFEs of the reaction processes of dyadic RIPs in ps time-resolved experiments. Such investigations have recently been carried out [19]... [Pg.195]
