Ribbed bars

RubCon structures reinforced with steel-ribbed bars have a high bond stress due to adhesion and forces of mechanical bond. [Pg.62]

Reinforcing bars must fulfil several requirements regarding strength, ductility, bond to concrete, weldability, etc. To achieve suitable anchorage when embedded in concrete, ribbed bars are normally used. Mechanical properties that are relevant for reinforcing bars are elastic modulus, strength and ductility. For instance, European standards that deal with reinforcement for concrete structures generally pre-... [Pg.249]

The bonding force of paste with reinforcing steel depends on temperature and decreases at increasing temperature [55]. Reduction of steel-paste bond is clearer in the case of polished steel than of msted or ribbed bars (Fig. 6.21). The steel-paste bond weakening in the case of ribbed bars vs. temperature is equivalent to the decrease of concrete flexural strength. [Pg.388]

Steel rods or plates should be protected against corrosion, especially when used with acidic timbers like oak. Stainless steel or hot dip zinc coated steel are frequently used. Stainless steel may give poor adhesion and, therefore, it is normally surface coated for improved roughness and adhesion. If hot dip zinc coated steel rods or bars are used, the application of a priming product to improve adhesion is normally required. Threaded rods or ribbed bars and textured plates may be used instead, and in this case the mechanical anchorage will also contribute to the bonding strength. Surface preparation is particularly critical in uncoated steel and it should... [Pg.275]

For the prediction of crack growth in reinforced concrete beams sijbjected to fatigue, our model must take the behaviour of the tension reinforcement into account. In a previous work (6) we derived, from a model based on fracture mechanics, S-N relationship for embedded ribbed bars located in the tension zone of flexural members ... [Pg.212]

The ribs on the reinforcing are distinguishable and can be measured, along with the diameter of the reinforcing with an estimated accuracy of about 10%. The upper part of the film is slightly overexposed causing less clear definition of the reinforcing bars. [Pg.1001]

Normally the filter strueture consists of a stack of plates attached to a hollow shaft which are mounted inside a pressure vessel with eaeh plate eovered with a suitable filter medium. The slurry is fed under pressure into the vessel and the eake, which is retained by the filter medium, forms on the top of eaeh plate whilst the filtrate passes through the hollow shaft further to the proeess. Filter sizes may vary but generally the maximum is 60 m area and designed for a 6 bar operating pressure. Each circular plate in the staek is eonstructed with radial ribs that are welded to the bottom and support a horizontal eoarse mesh screen whieh is eovered with a fmer woven metal screen or filter cloth to retain the cake. The bottom of the plate slopes towards the hollow eentral shaft whieh lets the filtrate flow freely through circumferential holes and further down the shaft to the filtrate outlet. The elearanee between the plates is maintained by speeial spacers... [Pg.193]

The introduction of large gas phase volumes into the polymer alters the physical characteristics of the material volume weight, permeability to fluids and gases, and physico-mechanical properties. Moreover, the properties of the polymer matrix itself are changed (owing to orientation effects, supermolecular structure of the polymer in the walls, ribs and tension bars of cells), which drives up the value of specific strength on impact, and results in anisotropy of elasticity. [Pg.100]

Rib design An example of how ribbing will provide the necessary equivalent moment of inertia and section modulus will be given. A flat plastic bar of IV2 in. x 3/8 in. thick and 10 in. long, supported at both ends and loaded at the center, was calculated to provide a specified deflection and stress level under a given load. The favorable material thickness of this plastic is 0.150 in. Using... [Pg.143]

Adequate calcium nutrition during childhood and adolescence is thought to bean important deterrent to osteoporosis in later life. A one-year study of 149 girls (8 years old) revealed the effects of consuming a typical diet (900 mg Ca/day) or a diet supplemented with an additional 850 mg Ca/day Bonjour el al, 1997). The Ca supplement was supplied by specially prepared biscuits, juices, and candy bars (rather thar pills) to assure compliance. To view some of the data, the density at the femoral diaphysis increased by 5% (unsupplemented) and by 6% (plus calcium) during the 1-ycar period. The density at the lumbar spine increased by 4% (unsupplemented) and by 4% (plus calcium). The data dernonstrated a dear and definite increase in bone density at some sites, but not at others. This study, as well as others Johnston et al., 1992), tend to show that caicium supplements to children can benefit bones of the appendicular skeleton, but not the axial skeleton. The appendicular skeleton includes the pelvis, arm bones, and leg bones. The axial skeleton includes the skull, vertebra, ribs, and sternum. [Pg.777]

A series of prismatic reinforced RubCon samples were produced. The reinforcement material was ribbed steel bar 0 8 mm. The height of samples or depth of a reinforcement anchorage was equaled from 35 up to 120 mm, that is, (4.3 15)0 the thickness of the protection layer was 8, 16, and 24 mm (1, 2, and 3) 0. Displacements of a reinforcing bar relatively the end face of the RubCon prism and load were measured during the tests. Results of these tests are shown in Figure 2.14 and Figure 2.15. [Pg.42]

The blends were prepared in a twin-screw extruder. The spiral flow was determined at a melt temperature of 288°C (550°F) for the PC and 266°C (510°F) for the transparent DB. The mold release energy was determined by measuring the force required to eject a disc measuring 76 mm in diameter and 3.2 mm thick with 6.4 mm high ribs. The chemical resistance was determined by measuring the maximum allowable outer fiber strain on 2.0 mm tensile bars, which did not reduce tensile elongation. [Pg.851]

T bar- Ribbed, "T" shaped bars with a flat metal plate at the bottom that are driven into the earth. Normally used chain link fence poles, and to mark locations of a water meter pit. [Pg.288]

Actually, elastomeric knitted fabrics account for the highest proportion of commercial sportswear. The knitting technology involves warp knitting and circular knitting. The former relates to tricot, raschel, and double-needle-bar raschel the latter involves single knit, interlock, double knit, and rib knits. [Pg.65]
