Retrieval: degree

Retrieval, degree of The share of the total number of wanted reports from a database that have been retrieved. [Pg.377]

Biological indicators for steam sterilization utilize bacillus stearothermophilus. In monitoring industrial cycles, a sufficient number of preparations each having a known degree of resistance are added to the load and retrieved after exposure, and cultured. [Pg.408]

As drilling technology moved the pursuit of hydrocarbon resources into higher-cost offshore and hostile environments, intentionally deviated boreholes required information such as azimuth and inclination that could not be derived by surface instruments. Survey instruments, either lowered on a sand line or dropped into the drill pipe for later retrieval, to some degree satisfied the requirements but consumed expensive rig time and sometimes produced questionable results. [Pg.901]

Major e-waste importing countries have laws restricting hazardous waste imports. The policies of developed countries in this area have served as models for official policies in the developing world. Developing countries, however, harbor in their economies an entrenched sector, in several respects honed to a high degree of efficiency, whose profitability depends on the retrieval of material from e-waste using methods harmful to the environment. [Pg.276]

On this basis of our recent study,26 the following hypothesis is proposed. The use of optimized AR protocols permits maximal retrieval of specific proteins (antigens) from FFPE tissues to a defined and reproducible degree (the retrieved rate of AR, expressed as R%), with reference to the amount of protein present in the original fresh/unfixed tissue. [Pg.92]

This hypothesis may also be presented mathematically the protein amount in a fresh ccll/tissuc expressed as Pf produces an IHC signal in fresh tissue of I (Pf). When the identical IHC staining plus AR treatment is applied to FFPE tissue section, the IHC signal is J (Pffpe). The degree of retrieval after AR (R%) is calculated as R% = J (Pffpe)/J (Pf) x 100%. The amount of protein in the FFPE tissue may then be derived as follows Pffpe = Pf x R%. In a situation where optimized AR is 100% effective, then the IHC signal would be of equal strength in fresh tissue and FFPE tissue, and Pffpe = Pf. [Pg.92]

Retrieval of membrane components in the secretory pathway through receptor-mediated endocytosis (RME) is a clathrin-coat-dependent process [5]. The clathrin coat provides stability to the vesicle core and allows uptake of specific membrane proteins for reuse or degradation. RME shows a remarkable degree of specificity, allowing cells to internalize with astonishing efficiency only those selected molecules independent of their extracellular concentration. [Pg.155]

From the concentration of each element in the liquid and in the source, we can retrieve the degree of melting and the residual mineralogy. We assume that the liquid contains 676 ppm Ni, 426 ppm Cr, 0.763 ppm Yb and 0.1 ppm Rb, whereas its source composition y vector is (2500, 1500, 0.2, 0.01) in ppm. We will test the assumption that the residuum is composed of olivine and clinopyroxene with the partition coefficients given above. Phase abundances Jt will be ordered as liquid, olivine and clinopyroxene. Let us compute, as an example, the element in the third row and second column of the matrix A... [Pg.481]

The two blind mice experiment of Alyan and Jander (1994) used the pup-retrieving behavior of female house mice to determine the visual cues they use for orientation in an arena of Im diameter. A strain of blind mice did not orient as well as intact mice. In different experiments, neither sighted nor blind mice appeared to use olfactory cues such as scent trails in sand, or the odors of wooden blocks in the arena, to find their nest after their arena had been rotated by 90 degrees. Such rotation misled them on their way home, despite landmarks in their arena with odor that should have been familiar to them. We know little on the role of olfactory cues in such short-range orientation. [Pg.81]

When hydrates dissociate on core retrieval, the melting hydrates provide water that is lower in chlorinity than the surrounding seawater. In situ hydrates content can be determined by measuring the degree of prewater dilution relative to a baseline assumed to represent the in situ pore water Cl- concentration prior to gas hydrate dissociation (Hesse and Harrison, 1981 Egeberg and Dickens, 1999). [Pg.581]
