Transparent, homogeneous hybrids using a 50 50 PVAc-to-TEOS mixture and an acid-catalyzed reaction have been produced and characterized by dsc and dms (46). Dsc indicated only a slight increase in the T of the hybrid with incorporation of sihca. Dynamic mechanical tan 8 responses indicate a strong interaction between the organic and inorganic phases and, hence, weU-dispersed phases that lead to high modulus mbbery plateaus. 

Poly(vinyl alcohol) has a low oral toxicity rating. The oral LD q is higher than 10,000 mg/kg (rats). Concentrations of up to 10,000 mg/L in water were tested for toxicity to bluegik sunfish. No mortaUty or response indicative of intoxication was observed (283).

Mechanical Response. PTX (5 x 10" to 3 x 10 M) caused a concentration-dependent contraction of the guinea pig vas deferens. The configuration of contractile response indicated the presence of two components, an initial rapid component followed by a second slow component. The first component of the response to PTX was abolished after treatment with Mg (10 mM), Ca -free medium, or ouabain (10 M), but remained almost unaffected by phentolamine (10 M), reserpine, 6-OHDA, atropine, or mecamylamine (10" M). The second component of the response to PTX was also completely inhibited after the incubation in the high or Ca -free medium. Phentolamine, reserpine, or 6-... 

In this work, a suspension culture of Taxus chinensis, which produces a bioactive taxoid, taxuyunnanine C (Tc), was taken as a model plant cell system. Experiments on the timing of jasmonates addition and dose response indicated that day 7 and 100 pM was the optimal elicitation time and concentration for both cell growth and Tc accumulation [8]. There are two pneumococcal vaccines, a 7-valent conjugated vaccine for children younger than 6 years of age and a 23-purified-capsular polysaccharide antigen vaccine for adults. The 23 capsular types in the vaccine represent at least 85% to 90% of the serotypes that cause invasive pneumococcal infections among children and adults in the United States.41 After vaccination, an antigen-specific antibody response, indicated by a twofold or greater rise in serotype-specific antibody, develops within 2 to 3 weeks in 80% or more of healthy young adults.42... 

MINITAB readily produces many useful manipulations of data such as were obtained in this experiment. Figure 2 shows histograms of the responses, indicating that, for the limited number of data points, the experimental values for each response approach a normal distribution. Thus, the statistical analysis was considered valid. Table III shows a copy of the computer printout of a correlation table with all the responses. Clearly, Property A and Property B are negatively correlated, as predicted, but Property B and Property E are not well correlated.

One method of controlling response perseveration and other anticipation factors is to use a forced choice response indication based on two or more response categories. In the measurement of odors the panelist has to report the temporal position of positive stimuli in a series of random blanks. If the concentration is below the threshold, the test subjects will guess. As the odorant concentration will increase, the relative cumulative frequency for identification of the correct sample will be greater. In order to determine the relative odor recognition a correction must be made. 

PMN infiltration also occurs following exposure to some common microbial cotton contaminants (Enterobacter aerogenes (44), Klebsiella pneumoniae or Escherichia coll), but not others (. subtills) (45). Cotton dust extracts pretreated at 80 C and 100 C for 20 minutes cause successively higher leucocyte responses, indicating that the chemotactlc effect is not solely affected by viable bacteria (46). Thus, while the increase seen in PMNs may not, by itself, represent a pathological alteration, it could be of importance in the later development of pathological effects.

In addition to the conventional pollutant constituents, USEPA made a survey of the presence of the 126 toxic pollutants listed as priority pollutants in refinery operations in 1977 [5]. The survey responses indicated that 71 toxic pollutants were purchased as raw or intermediate materials 19 of these were purchased by single refineries. At least 10% of aU refineries purchase the following toxic pollutants benzene, carbon tetrachloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, phenol, toluene, zinc and its compounds, chromium and its compounds, copper and its compounds, and lead and its compounds. Zinc and chromium are purchased by 28% of all refineries, and lead is purchased by nearly 48% of all plants.
