Certain details of these substances have been presented previously. A general description of the research programs and of the procedures used to obtain fish in Antarctica has been given (12). Recently, one article summarized the more theoretical concepts of the mode of action of the antifreeze proteins (7) while a second, more extensive article was directed at protein chemists (8). The latter article describes in detail the general chemistry and properties of the antifreeze substances, as well as presenting hypotheses and models for their modes of action. [Pg.89]

The following is a description of the typical essential competencies needed to plan, conduct, and report a clinical research program in a regulated environment. Each competency is described, as well as the knowledge and skills a sponsor s representative would need to be successful in completing the task. Judgment can then be applied to the most... [Pg.20]

Packet of materials for attendees containing four short statements of problems and issues by participants short descriptions of nine actual workshop, fellowship. Intern, equipment and liaison prograios short descriptions of seven joint research programs. [Pg.144]

Some centers carry out research programs within their own facilities, while others rely entirely on their university partners some are affiliated with several Ohio universities and some with only one or two some are regional while others are global. A complete description of the Edison Program and its several centers is provided in a recent report by the National Research Council (5). [Pg.31]

We shall be concerned with fluids in the liquid rather than gaseous state and with their classical rather than quantum-mechanical description. Our detailed illustrative examples will be further restricted to a few sample model potentials, although our ultimate goal includes the treatment of polyatomic molecules, real electrolytes, and fused salts as well as the sorts of models—the Lennard-Jones and Stockmayer fluids and the primitive-model ionic solution—that have already been treated accurately by the techniques herein. Recent theoretical developments that promise to transform our goal from a vision into a well-defined research program lie beyond the rather narrow sights... [Pg.47]

Any physician involved in a health assurance program will have had the usual training and exposure to a variety of medical experiences. It also is highly desirable for the individual to have specific training in industrial medicine. Since the actual conditions of employee exposure to hazardous materials will differ with each organization, the physician should be sufficiently famihar with the types of ejqrosures represented by the job descriptions of the employees to be able to apply his own expertise and experience to the potential ejqrosures. The more complex and diversified the research programs in an organization, the more difficult this task will be, and unfortunately, there are relatively few physicians trained as occupational physicians. It probably would be desirable for the physician to set aside some time to visit the various research areas, and visit with both the supervisors and individual employees. [Pg.393]

The development of an hydrodynamic model involves the prediction of pressure drop, hold-up, contact areas between phases, phases ratios and residence time distributions for a given column internal. Although various predictive models are available in the open domain (see e.g. Kooijman and Taylor (2000)), the model developed by The University of Texas Separations Research Program (SRP model) (Rocha et al., 2004, 1996 Fair et al., 2000) enjoys a widespread preference within packed columns internals. Lately, the Delft model has been introduced (Fair et al, 2000) and vahdated for the case of zig-zag triangular flow channels. Note that the following descriptions are referred to a VL system. [Pg.29]

Description of Experiments A series of four CO2 vapor releases was conducted at the HSC during July 1993 by DRI and WRI personnel with support from the DOE site contractor, EG G/EM, and ERA technical staff. This series was the first fieldwork in an EPA-sponsored research program to better understand dense gas dispersion under stable atmospheric conditions. These experiments documented two facts (1) a demonstrated methodology for collecting high-resolution concentration data and (2) that dense gas behavior could be exhibited by releasing as little as 1-2 kg/s of the heavier-than-air surrogate gas, CO2. [Pg.529]

Peebles, Gurtis. Road to Mach 10 Lessons Learned from the X-43A Flight Research Program. Reston, Va. American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 2008. A contemporary experimental flight-test program description. [Pg.17]

Shuling Di et al. [7] opined that some modes like project description, application-based teaching contents such as open teaching, tutor system, scientific research, programming contest motivate the students will, ability of self-directed learning, and innovation ability. [Pg.397]
