Environment regulations

Laws and regulations on the use of chemicals in aquaculture vary by country and serve to ensure safe and effective use and protection of humans and the environment. Regulations and therapeutants or other chemicals that are approved or allowed for use in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan are presented below.

As noted in Figure 4, maximum S02 emissions represent 146 tonnes equivalent sulphur as the daily rate. Besides taking measures to restrict atmospheric sulphur emissions, the main stack was designed and constructed in accordance with Alberta Environment regulations which set a maximum half-hour average ground level concentration of 150 pg/ m3 (approximately 0.06 ppm). This level was set to allow for additional oil sands plants in this area. A computational procedure supplied by Alberta Environment determined a stack height of 183 m would meet these requirements.

In the field of radiation safety of the environment - regulated, in particular, by the Federal Law On the Environmental Protection - the legislation does not address the issues of standardization of radiation quality of objects of environment. Moreover, a number of the law provisions contradicts the existing legislation and real practice of radiation protection of the environment which use the sanitary-hygienic approach where if man is protected, the environment is protected too , as per the ICRP Recommendations in force (Publication 60). 

The test report is a guarantee for farmers, dealers and manufacturers because the machine directive and other national and international environment regulations provide for specific requirements and responsibilities.

The disposal of organochlorine solvents costs as much or more than the purchase price of the solvent. Thus, a 100-fold decrease in solvent use can reflect a 200-fold decrease in solvent costs. Further, workplace environment regulations are becoming increasingly more stringent and increased emphasis on health considerations of laboratory workers suggests that SFE may provide improvement in several areas of current concern.
