Research and Case Study

Plastics waste management is a multidisciplinary process involving areas where case studies are of benefit. Many research questions in plastics waste management are suitable for case study research and the case study methodology is well suited for many types/aspects of plastics waste management. Research into plastics waste is a contemporary development and is complicated by the fact the waste components/processes are difficult to study in isolation. [Pg.118]

Additionally, the EPA pubhshes a newsletter entitled Pollution Prevention News that contains information including EPA news, technologies, program updates, and case studies. The EPA s Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratoiy and the Center for Environmental Research Information has pubhshed several guidance documents, developed in cooperation with the California Department of Health Services. The manuals supplement generic waste reduction information presented in the EPA s Waste Minimization Opportunity Assessment Manual (Ref. 9). [Pg.2167]

This approach combines deductive and inductive research steps (Popper 1959, pp. 27-33) and complies with the process proposed by Ulrich/Hill (1976). This process includes cases studies as one mean of deductive research. A case study serves as one basis for the definition of industry requirements existing in reality in chapter 4 as well as a test bed for the model evaluation in chapter 6. A mapping of each chapter to the research process of Ulrich and Hill (1976), p. 348 is summarized in table 1. [Pg.22]

The book focuses on the details of two or three aspects of problems related to each selected topic. Clinical and research data are used to illustrate these problems, and case studies are frequently presented. Emphasis on primary data is intended to encourage readers to use their own trained judgment when examining data from the literature as well as data from their own research experience. [Pg.1021]
