Research analyses qualitative findings

Habeck, Hunt, and VanTol (1998), Habeck et al. (1998), Hunt and Habeck (1993), and Hunt et al. (1993)—extending the earlier research of Habeck (1993), Habeck, Leahy, and Hunt (1988), and Habeck et al. (1991)—relate the disability outcomes of 220 Michigan firms to those firms HRM practices. This research is the first serious analysis of how management safety culture affects injury claims. In addition to collecting survey information for the 220 firms, Hunt et al. (1993) held extensive interviews with 32 of the 220 firms and find a qualitative difference in those firms that engage in what the researchers call a participative culture. In other words, they find a qualitative difference between firms that facilitate employee involvement in decision making and those where the employees do not participate in the firm s decision making. [Pg.17]

Thirdly, this case study gives qualitative results. So we are not confident to say that all these impacts or relationships will be valid in a more general sense. So quantitative analysis is necessary to further validate these relationships. Therefore a survey with a large sample base is necessary. Fortunately, the necessary data have been collected in a wide range of company types with different marketing channels. The findings of this case study will be further tested through econometric methods in the follow-up research. [Pg.44]

During the past several decades this technique has become increasingly important and useful in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of materials, and its utilization is spreading to such other areas as layer-thickness measurements, reflectivities, and refractive index. It is a technique that finds a wide variety of uses both in industrial analytical laboratories and in research laboratories of all types, as it furnishes information that is useful in qualitative and quantitative analysis, in the calculation of various physical constants, in the determination of the structure of compounds, and in many other areas. [Pg.1]

An important direction for future work would be to deepen our analysis via qualita-hve research methods. Although part of the impetus for our research was to look at quantitahve issues, we believe our findings have raised questions that may be best answered through qualitative inveshgations. A second future direchon would be to make comparahve studies, for example between new and experienced users or achve non-admins versus admins. Such comparisons might lend quantitative support (or could falsify) hypotheses about the trajectory from new user to admin. [Pg.284]

The establishment of validity in qualitative research rests on assumptions about - and acceptance of - the knowledge and insights of informants, and the issue of reliability is complex. Some claim that the notion of reliability in qualitative research is a misnomer, misappropriating a concept from the normative paradigm. For there is no expectation that qualitative data will be reliable in the sense meant in quantitative research the assumption is that in a small, local situation knowledge is specific and findings are not necessarily replicable. However, it may be that there are different sides to the story , and in this seirse data and analysis from only one source may indeed constitute a distorted picture. [Pg.80]
