The VMP should be a summary document and should therefore be brief, concise, and clear. It should not repeat information documented elsewhere but should refer to existing documents such as policy documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validation protocols/reports. The documentation format is illustrated in the VMP. 

The most important of the standard reports is the Certificate of Analysis, Although the report format is relatively fixed, its unique feature is that all copies generated before or after the official copy are labelled either preliminary or duplicate as appropriate. This feature is essential for any laboratory that must conform to specific standards, certify its processes and control report documents.

We report on formation of tin-dioxide nanoislands by molecular-beam deposition of Sn on Si/Si02 substrates followed by thennal oxidation. The microstructure and phase composition of Sn and SnO nanoislands wens studied by TEM. The formation of coreshell Sn02/Sn structures as well as holes in the SnO nanoislands is documented and found to correlate with the thickness of initial Sn layer and with the oxidation temperature. The results are discussed on the basis of the Kirkendall effect with an additional assumption that absorption of oxygen atoms on the oxide surface creates an electric field that promotes the diffusion of metal ions. 

The analytical development report is a documented summary and logic flow of all essential analytical information acquired during the R D phase of the project. In many cases, this report serves a variety of purposes it is a repository of all important analytical information pertaining to the project and is therefore a source document for the quality unit, and it is also used in the preparation of the site inspection at the time of product approval. All information contained in this report must be traceable to raw data and other reports, if applicable. Table 3 contains a summary of all information that should be contained in the analytical development report. The format of the report is not critical, but the information must be present. For further details on the various sections and chapters in this report, the reader is referred to other chapters in this text that describe the details therein. 

Individual protocols and reports can be written for each test to facilitate transfer of specific mefhods. This approach allows a discrepancy fo be investigated while not holding up unaffected method transfer activities. To facilitate internal and regulatory inspections, the method transfer protocols and reports should be compiled for easy review at the receiving site. The raw data should be readily accessible. Transfer of any relevant documentation such as methods, specifications, validation reports, reference standard information should be completed. From this point on, the change control process should assure that methods and specifications remain the same at the qualified fesfing sifes except perhaps for document format. 

Note that where hazard registers are large it might be easier in the safety case to refer out to a dedicated document, appendix, annex or electronic report. Whatever format is chosen, it should be complete, intuitively structured aud be readily accessible to the intended stakeholders.
