Renting

As the name implies the company basically rents the rig and crew on a per day basis. Usually the oil company also manages the drilling operation and has full control over the drilling process. This type of contract actually encourages the contractor to spend as much time as acceptable on location . With increased cost consciousness, day rate contracts have become less favoured by most oil companies. 

Companies which own process facilities and evacuation routes, but no longer have the hydrocarbons to fill them, can continue to operate them profitably by renting the extra capacity or by charging tariffs for the use of export routes. 

Cost Calculation. The main elements determining production cost are identical for fine chemicals and commodities (see Economic evaluation), a breakdown of production cost is given in Table 2. In multipurpose plants, where different fine chemicals occupying the equipment to different extents are produced during the year, a fair allocation of costs is a more difficult task. The allocation of the product-related costs, such as raw material and utiHties, is relatively easy. It is much more difficult to allocate for capital cost, labor, and maintenance. A simplistic approach is to define a daily rent by dividing the total yearly fixed cost of the plant by the number of production days. But that approach penalizes the simple products using only part of the equipment.

The manufacturing cost consists of direct, indirect, distribution, and fixed costs. Direct costs are raw materials, operating labor, production supervision, utihties, suppHes, repair, and maintenance. Typical indirect costs include payroll overhead, quaHty control, storage, royalties, and plant overhead, eg, safety, protection, personnel, services, yard, waste, environmental control, and other plant categories. However, environmental control costs are frequendy set up as a separate account and calculated direcdy. The principal distribution costs are packaging and shipping. Fixed costs, which are insensitive to production level, include depreciation, property taxes, rents, insurance, and, in some cases, interest expense. 

With the exception of the dead-band booster, the application of booster relavs has diminished sornewEat bv the increased use of ciir-rent-to-pressiire transducers, electropneiirnatic positioners, and electronic control svsterns. Transducers and valve positioners serve much the same fiinctionalitv as the booster relav in addition to interfacing with the electronic process controller. 

To ascertain profit or loss (calculated as income minus expenditure for a given accounting period), income and expenditure must be matched. For example, any rent paid in advance beyond the current accounting period should not be included in the profit or loss calculation. Similarly, goods sold but not yet paid for in a given accounting period should not be included in the revenue total for that period. 

When desired, ihe machine can also be designed as an inductor to supply lagging reactive kVAr, with the help of AVR and QDC. It will serve little purpose, if used both as a motor and a condenser. Banks are not in business to take risks. They rent money and do everything they can to insure the return of their principal as well as the interest. Elaborate rating systems have been developed to measure each company s ability to repay its loans. One criterion is the debt to equity ratio. The higher the debt the more risk in a loan, and the higher the interest rate.

The exciter is an AC generator with a stator-mounted field. Direct cur rent for the exciter field is provided from an external source, typically u small variable voltage rectifier mounted at the motor starter. Exciter oui put is converted to DC through a three-phase, full-wave, silicon-diode bridge rectifier. Thyristors (silicon-controlled rectifiers) switch the cur rent to the motor field and the motor-starting, field-discharge resistors These semiconductor elements are mounted on heat sinks and assembled on a drum bolted to the rotor or shaft. 

Semiconductor control modules gate the thyristors, which switch cm rent to the motor field at the optimum motor speed and precise phase angle. This assures synchronizing with minimum system disturbance. On pull-out, the discharge resistor is reapplied and excitation is removed k> provide protection to the rotor winding, shaft, and external electrical system. The control resynchronizes the motor after the cause of pull-out i.n removed, if sufficient torque is available. The field is automatically applied if the motor synchronizes on reluctance torque. The use of pilot-plant filter assemblies is both eommon and a elassieal approaeh to design methodology development. These eombine the filter with pumps, reeeivers, mixers, ete., in a single eompaet unit and may be rented at a nominal fee from filter manufaeturers, who supply operating instruetions and sometimes an operator. Preliminary tests are often run at the filter manufacturer s laboratory. Rough tests indicate what filter type to try in the pilot plant. 

Now take another example from the service industry accommodation. There are various categories, such as rented, leased, and purchased. In the rented category there are hotels, inns, guest houses, apartments, etc. It would be inappropriate to compare hotels with guest houses or apartments with inns. They are each in a different class. Hotels are a class of accommodation within which are grades such as 5 star, 4 star, 3 star, etc., indicating the facilities offered. 

After a low-temperature trip on a nitrogen vaporizer failed to operate, it was found that the trip was never tested. The equipment was rented, and the user assumed—wrongly—that the owner would test it. 

Typical values of y range from 1.1 to 1.67, wliich give rcm values of 1.71 to 2.05. Thus, for releases of most diatomic gases (y = 1.4) to tlie atmosphere, upstream pressures over 1.9 bar absolute will result in sonic flow. Note tliat tlie inverse of rent is occasionally used by industry.
