REMUS

At present only Trichogramma species and the scelionid egg parasitoid Telenomus remus (20) are known to respond to moth sex pheromones. However, this phenomenon could be much more widespread and overlooked because these wasps apparently do not fly to point sources and are not caught in pheromone traps. [Pg.63]

Test results for the diver-deployed and initial REMUS-deployed sensor tests are presented in Section 6.5.2. [Pg.142]

During the second round of testing, it was possible to deploy the sensor on the REMUS. Figure 6.13 is a photograph of the system while operational in the marine environment during the test. While no positive indications of TNT were observed during the test, the sensor was successfully operated on the REMUS in the marine environment. Lessons learned during this deployment led to development of the SeaPup sensor, which was constructed and tested in early 2003. [Pg.146]

While not demonstrated during this work, another interesting capability of the REMUS AUV system is that a sensitive, real-time explosive sensor could supply explosive concentration information to an adaptive mission planner that is capable of modifying the course of the AUV, so that the AUV tracks the explosive plume to its source. This capability, if further developed, could enable detection of UUXO by tracking explosive plumes to source. [Pg.148]

The SeaDog is also available in two configurations. A handheld version can be easily used by divers, while the AUV model is specifically configured for integration with underwater autonomous vehicles, such as the REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring Unit) shown in Figure 9.8. [Pg.204]

The electrochemical TNT sensor was mounted onto the UUV as a separate module, and it serially sent data values to the REMUS UUV. The electrode assembly was mounted on the cone nose of the vehicle and connected to the internal microanalyzer (Fig. 7). Major attention was given to the optimization of variables of the square-wave waveform (including the frequency, amplitude, and potential step) essential for attaining high speed... [Pg.99]

The U.S. Navy performed field tests which successfully demonstrated that an underwater version of the Nomadics sensor can detect a plume of TNT in real-time in the ocean over 100 metres from its source. In these tests, the SeaPup sensor was integrated with the REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring UnitS) unmanned underwater vehicle (Figure 6) and deployed in a series of successful missions in the Atlantic Ocean. [Pg.128]

One interesting aspect of the data is that data filtering allows the REMUS to monitor a threshold value for finding TNT. This system can feed information to an adaptive mission planner so that the REMUS can follow a plume upstream, to its source. The filtered data channel also allows rapid determination of mission success. [Pg.129]

The time-domain data are integrated with the longitude-latitude positioning data Ifom the REMUS vehicle to develop a concentration map of the area. This concentration map clearly shows a plume of TNT emanating from a source. The plume was detected over 100 metres Ifom the source as shown in Figure 7. [Pg.129]
