Reliability supply chain process

Between 2000 and 2010, there were many market shifts, and companies found that without the ability to sense and adapt to market conditions, the reliable supply chain was not sufficient. In 2000, Cisco Systems was caught in the downturn of the e-commerce bubble. As a result of not sensing demand changes, the company was forced to write off 2.25 billion in inventory in 2001. This loss taught the company an important lesson. The redefinition of supply chain processes to be more resilient enabled the company to sense and withstand the downturn of the Great Recession of 2008. [Pg.33]

It is not unusual for the actual shipment date to be a few days different from the original promised shipment date due to uncertainty in supply chain processes. However, this unreliability might not be acceptable to relationship-based customers. Therefore, Dell offers a special service through Dell Premier accounts at premier.dell.com for business and public sector customers. The service not only provides reports and tools to assist purchasing, asset management, and product support, but also allows customers to hook up their ERP/EDI systems with Dell s to perform real-time computer systems procurement. Through Premier accounts, Dell commits to more responsive and reliable order promising and fulfillment solutions for its relationship-based customers with support from advanced IT systems (see Kraemer and Dedrick 2001). [Pg.453]

This comprehensive approach allows for efficient integration between processes, different phases of product life cycle, and integration between different sites in the supply chain. This integration provides opportunity for efficiency in that process owners are integrated with each other s needs and expectations. Duplication of effort is avoided and efficiencies gained. Quality outputs from one process become reliable inputs into the next process. Management and leadership will have access and insight into compliance, infrastructure, and performance metrics of all processes on a comparable basis. This provides leadership the opportunity for risk-based resource allocation to appropriate areas of the enterprise. [Pg.258]

Promoting the sustainable development implies the availability of reliable measures. These measures should regard the complete manufacturing-supply chain over the predictable product life cycle. The metrics should be simple and understandable by the large public, useful for decision-making agents, consistent and reproducible. The sustainability measures proposed recently by Schwartz, Beloff Beaver (2002) have these properties. They refer to the same unit of outputs, for example the to the value-added dollar Fy4, defined as Revenues minus Costs of raw materials and utilities. The metrics that will be presented are consistent in the sense that 1) the lower the metric the more effective the process, and 2) all indicate the same direction. [Pg.27]

Procurement process involves development of reliable suppliers who will supply as per manufacturing programme (product mix) to be carried out in response to market changes. There could be urgent demand for the products for which the necessary inputs will also be required urgently. The requirements shall be rapidly fulfilled by suppliers and logistics providers as they form important components of supply chain networks. [Pg.251]

The current process flow is analyzed to determine nonvalue added activities. Then, a second sub-group out of the nonvalue added group is selected by considering what if RFID was deployed. A thorough investigation of each step, along with interviews with experts and additional data collection, the RFID-enhanced value stream map is reduced to 18 steps, as opposed to 54, which represents 66.7% improvement in number of steps. Such an improvement not only makes the supply chain more reliable but also reduces the overall lead time drastically, which is estimated to be a reduction of 60%. [Pg.410]

The supply chain unit selection in cloud chains is affected by a number of different factors than used in traditional supply chain configuration. These factors are related to the Quality of Service (QoS) criteria used in web service selection (Strunk 2010). They include service response time, service availability and service reliability. It is expected that physical supply chain configuration decisions and virtual/information processing supply chain configuration decisions are mutually interdependent. Therefore, the cloud chain configuration includes joint selection of all kinds of supply chains units according to their respective selection criteria. [Pg.232]

The agreed-upon rules of the game between legally independent enterprises ensure that the entire delivery and performance process relevant for your customers - specifically, the entire supply chain - can be managed reliably and fast, no matter how many companies participate. [Pg.27]

First of all, there are very few of these events. And second, they occur in a harmonized environment and can be brought under control fast and reliably. And third, the SCM always makes up for these delays if the snow or rain event does not occur just at the end of the business process - e.g. during loading. The longer the remaining net supply chain is, the greater is the SCM s chance to make up for lost time. [Pg.139]

Refining companies are successfully implementing supply chain integrated solutions to solve these problems and improve refinery operation and profitability. However, these applications depend on the availability of accurate and live data. Some points of the supply chain— in particular planning and operation areas—are greatly influenced by the availability of reliable and updated crude oil libraries reflecting the information of the crude oil and the products that will be obtained in the different processes. [Pg.393]
