Relationship to industry

Observations of smoke plumes, first brief tests and some papers 15, 6/ suggest that the immission concentration is fluctuating in a wide range near the source. Human nose is more sensitive to odour concentration fluctuation than, due to adaption, to constant odour concentration. In fig. 5 it is shown qualitativly that odour perception may occur due to concentration fluctuations although the mean value is far below the odour threshold. In table 1 it is indicated that the distance between agricultural emission sources and receptor is relatively small in relationship to industrial emissions. [Pg.112]

Industry has standardized procedures for the quantitative sensory assessment of the perceived olfactory intensity of indoor malodors and their relationship to the deodorant efficacy of air freshener products. Synthetic malodors are used for these evaluation purposes. These malodors should be hedonicaHy associated to the "real" malodor, and must be readily available and of consistent odor quaUty. These malodors should be tested in various concentrations and be representative of intensities experienced under normal domestic conditions. [Pg.293]

For a Hquid under shear the rate of deformation or shear rate is a function of the shearing stress. The original exposition of this relationship is Newton s law, which states that the ratio of the stress to the shear rate is a constant, ie, the viscosity. Under Newton s law, viscosity is independent of shear rate. This is tme for ideal or Newtonian Hquids, but the viscosities of many Hquids, particularly a number of those of interest to industry, are not independent of shear rate. These non-Newtonian Hquids may be classified according to their viscosity behavior as a function of shear rate. Many exhibit shear thinning, whereas others give shear thickening. Some Hquids at rest appear to behave like soHds until the shear stress exceeds a certain value, called the yield stress, after which they flow readily. [Pg.166]

Constructing the model is an area where innovative effort is needed to maximize the validity of the model. The model will vary from industry to industry, but a simple one can start with a relationship between the number of employee hours and the output produced in each discrete activity area on the site, e.g. [Pg.72]

The cooperation of industrial and engineering designers with the metal finishers, who are frequently required to perform the near-impossible as a consequence of poor communication, is notoriously bad largely as a consequence of the nature of sub-contract industrial relationships. To meet this need an important new standard —BS 4479—has been issued although it is ostensibly a revision of the old standard it is in reality a new standard written essentially as a code of practice. Invaluable advice is given to finishers and designers alike the challenge now is to have it widely read and appreciated ... [Pg.378]

The second decision was the near-fatal one that sent Haefliger to Austria the year before the Anschluss. He was to go to Vienna, said the committee, to set up "a closer relationship" to the munitions industries there. [Pg.260]

Third, simple approaches constrain the relationship to be the same for all contexts. Jones and Sasser (1995) find that the customer satisfaction-customer loyalty relationship varies by industry, possibly because of differences in competitive environment. Bowman and Narayandas (2001, 2004) find that customer-specific factors such as the competitive context at a given customer account can occasion differential responsiveness. Accounting for heterogeneity in customer relationships and customer response to a vendor s strategies and tactics is a key theme of much recent research in management science. [Pg.196]

There can be no question that some very wonderful, exciting, extremely important, and productive research has been and is being done within the pharmaceutical industry. However, 1 do not think that it would detract in any way from these fine and worthwhile activities to point out that much that is called research in the pharmaceutical industry has little relationship to what most people engaged in academic and research activities would consider to be scientific research. ... [Pg.55]

The hydrogen strategy is to focus on distributed hydrogen related energy systems, network with international activities (EU, lEA, Nordic), and connect with fuel cell activities in Finland. Finland s fuel cell strategy is a bit more developed, with plans to focus on systems, fuel cell demonstrations and applications, build a close relationship with industry to create a national fuel cell group, and network with international fuel cell initiatives. [Pg.125]
