We think that industrial and academic scientists and engineers who have worked in the polymer field have much to be proud of. Maybe in the future, biotechnology will be considered the greatest contribution that chemistry has made to mankind, but for now, we believe the synthesis of polymeric materials has to top the list. In the forthcoming chapters and essays, we will try to justify this statement as we introduce you to the science of these materials. But to begin with, in the next chapter, we ll talk about micro-structure  [Pg.21]

Combining the practice of preventive maintenance and total quality control and total employee involvement results in an innovative system for equipment maintenance that optimizes effectiveness, eliminates breakdowns, and promotes autonomous operator maintenance through day-to-day activities. This concept known as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) was conceived by Seiichi Nakajima and is well-documented in his book Introduction of TPM and is highly recommended reading for all involved in the maintenance area. [Pg.723]

If your employers will not let you publish an accident report under your own name, perhaps they will let you send it to a journal that will publish it anonymously, for example, the Loss Prevention Bulletin (see Recommended Reading), or perhaps they will let you publish details of the action you took as a result. This may not have the same impact as the report, but it is a lot better than nothing (see Section 8.1.5). [Pg.396]

Methods for evolutionary rank analysis are explained and discussed in this section. The different approaches of evolutionary rank analysis have in common that the two-way data stmcture is analyzed piece-wise to locally reveal the presence of the analytes. A reference to the review of evolutionary methods by Toft et al. is included in the additional recommended reading list at the end of this chapter. [Pg.274]

Desk research consists mainly of reading as much as possible about other people s experiences and recommendations. Read industry publications to find out what is currently in demand and what looks promising for the future, as well as what price ranges are available for various products. If there are one or two people who have published material of particular relevance, then if possible go and speak to them in person. They may say more in person than they will write, or their work may prove to have been derivative, in which case find the original source. Market research reports and trade publications can be obtained from most local libraries. Most broadsheet national and local newspapers report occasionally on the organic food industry, and sometimes it is possible to identify a gap in the market. [Pg.127]

One of the textbooks in our list of recommended reading states that proton T, values in high-resolution NMR lie close to 1 second and vary little with the type of proton. [Pg.13]

I recommend reading Rebpse Prevention, by G. Alan Marlatt and Judith Gordon (New York Guilford Press, 1985). Although many books have been written since this one, this is the original classic that introduced the relapse model and prevention methods we still use today. These strategies have been scientifically validated for many years now. A new edition of this book edited by Marlatt and Dennis Donovan is due out soon. [Pg.284]

I would recommend reading First Things First, by Stephen Covey, Roger Merrill, and Rebecca Merrill (New York Simon Schuster, 1995) this book provides a wonderful blueprint for how to more effectively structure one s time, set priorities in life, and leave an enduring legacy. [Pg.301]
